Butters is my favorite character. He reminds me of a very good friend of mine- good hearted and TOTALLY clueless.
Last night's episode represents why I love the show so much- it was twisted to the point of being not funny. They pushed it SO far that I felt uncomfortable, and that is not easy to do. Thank god comedy central allows these guys to do their thing (except for the time they wouldn't let them show Allah or when for awhile they wouldn't re-air the Tom Cruise Scientology episode). |

A thought: (And I may take hell for this.)
The gist of the episode was that some people feel certain "urges" towards members of the same sex. For some slightly comic reasons, Butters is sent to a Christian camp to cure him of these "urges". At camp, Butter's roommate is suicidal due to the cognitive dissonance he experiences dealing with his urges. The episode ends predictably with Butters declaring it's okay to have and give into these urges--it's part of who you are. When watching the episode, I couldn't help but think about how pedofile's describe similar urges and difficulties suppressing them. What about people who like to decapitate dogs and gift wrap their heads with Valentine's candy? South Park seemed to imply that just having an urge was justification for it being okay. It's beyond your control, right?
