Gee, could this be a result of the latest stink over "student loans"? The colleges steering students to the lender who gives them the best kickbacks?

I was under the impression that private student loans were always grossly more expensive than government loans. When I was in school, the rates were either around 25% or they had a bunch of monthly fees that were rolled into the balance on the loan.
