My SLR-95 arrived today

Gratuitous pictures after dinner, when the wife is asleep!

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=66502388

Not bad for $680.50 + $25 transfer fee.

Here are the pics from the Auction:

Nice piece. I've been reading up on AK's for a little while, still trying to figure out the differences.

Do you mind giving a few points why you picked up this one? I know, rookie question.

Tabs, a long while back you were telling me about an top quality American made AK. Can't recall what it was. Is it the gun above?

I have a Norinco MAK90. Cheap stamped gun, but it shoots straight, and has never failed to feed. You can throw a hell of a lot of lead down range in short period......

I'm not familiar with that varient. Looks to be a milled receiver. Curious as to why the thumbhole stock. Can't tell by picture if it has threaded muzzle and bayonet lug. There was a period of time when those three items were an issue for importation.
It should be a shooter.

Actually, TABS is right. He suggested I pick up a Bulgarian rifle with a milled receiver, and Arsenal was the best. These are very accurate. The good thing about this one is that while it came with only a 5 round magazine, it will accept standard magazines without modification.

I have also purchased a Romanian parts kit and I'll be picking up a locally made sheet metal receiver.

Speaking of AKs:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=67679283

I don't know if someone built that out on a pre-1986 receiver, or is there is some interesting story about how that was imported. It is extremely rare to see a transferable full-auto Krinkov; sure wish I could afford it!

It is for import points. A lot of people take those stocks off and put a standard pistol grip AK stock on it -- which is a technical violation of the law if you don't have enough of the required U.S. made parts in the firearm.

If you buy US made parts, there is no violation.

It is more than just "U.S." made parts -- Section 922(r) is somewhat complicated. This is just a notice from one parts dealer. If I get time later, I'll see if I can find better details about it.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO OUR CUSTOMERS.
BASED ON COMMENTS THAT WE GET FROM OUR CUSTOMERS THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME
CONFUSION OUT THERE ABOUT THE SUNSETTING OF THE CRIME BILL AND SECTION 922(r) .
ALTHOUGH THE SUNSETTING OF THE CRIME BILL DID ALLOW FOR CERTAIN DOMESTICALLY MADE FIREARMS TO
RETAIN THEIR MILITARY CHARACTERISTICS, THIS IS TOTALLY SEPERATE FROM AND IN NO WAY
EFFECTS SECTION 922(r), WHICH IS STILL VERY MUCH IN AFFECT.
SETION 922(r) , TITLE 18, U.S.C., MAKES IT UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON TO ASSEMBLE FROM
IMPORTED PARTS ANY SEMIAUTOMATIC RIFLE OR ANY SHOTGUN WHICH IS IDENTITCAL TO ANY
RIFLE OR SHOTGUN PROHIBITED FROM IMPORTATION UNDER SECTION 925(d) (3) OF THE GCA.
THIS SECTION OF THE LAW APPLIES TO AK RIFLES, FAL / STG RIFLES, G-3 TYPE RIFLES, AS WELL
AS MANY OTHER IMPORTED RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS. BASICALLY, ASSEMBLY OF ANY OF THESE RIFLES
FROM IMPORTED PARTS IS A VIOLATION, UNLESS ENOUGH U.S. MADE PARTS ARE INCLUDED IN
THE ASSEMBLY OF THE FIREARM TO BRING IT INTO COMPLIANCE.
OUR PART SETS ARE SOLD AS REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT ONLY. PLEASE KNOW THAT THE ASSEMMBLY OF THESE
PARTS INTO A FIREARM WITHOUT THE PROPER # OF U.S. PARTS IS A VIOLATION OF SEC 922(r).
