NASCAR truck series... I mean really...

I was waiting to watch the F1 qualifying session last night and it was delayed so SPEED could show the Craftsman truck series results. My god.. is it just me or do we really need a truck series in addition to the countless hours or NASCAR being shown on SPEED.

And, when they showed the winner, I guy named Skinner (?) he looked about 20 lbs overweight.... I thought drivers were supposed to be elite athletes..........

I agree...hey, if it will carry a human...and two or more of whatever it is get together? A race breaks out. Just a personal preference here, but I'd rather watch a race with some bumping and shoving that some rich european lads play follow the leader in open wheeled megamillions machines. Different strokes...if you don't like it, drop speed from your cable programming...or better yet, drop cable, invest the monthy fee in your IRA...you'll be the winner then.

and it still gets 10 times the air time than any other form of motorsport! and it generates more money(advertising, fan participation, network attention) than ANY sport in the US. I can see why some narrow minded people would be upset.

I've ended up watching bits and pieces (including last night's truck series as I was waiting for qualifying from Australia to begin). Say what you will, but these guys most definitely can drive. And their crews are pretty amazing...you see cars with brutal damage being fixed and sent back out. And there most definitely is strategy going on. I don't have any interest in racing like that (more of a contact sport than civilized club road course racing), and watching it doesn't interest me like F1 or ALMS/etc, but it has it's "charms"...

Each to his own. My mechanic (for the Jeep, mind you!!), thinks I am a bit posh for driving a Porsche. I have yet to form an opinion on his favorite pastime - Tractor Pulling..

You are aware that NASCAR now owns SPEED TV, aren't you? But for NASCAR you wouldn't be able to see as much F1 as you do. Nor would I be watching thelive coverage of the Sebring 12 hours, as I type.

Get over it...at the very least a necessary evil to subsidize the televised coverage of a variety of motorsports I enjoy in addition to NASCAR.

Racing pickup trucks is like going slummin' for fat chicks. Yea, you can do it but at the end of the day it's just wrong, you feel dirty for it and there are way better ways to satisfy your craving.

Wow, Jeff, you seem to be the experienced expert at both...which one do you prefer, racing your truck or "slummin' for fat chicks"?

Unless there's been a recent change, Speed Channel is owned by News Corporation - parent company of Fox Broadcasting - and is not owned by the France family or NASCAR.

I was speaking metaphorically

Per Wikepedia

SPEED made news with the 2005 firing of network president Jim Liberatore, who had been with the network since FOX bought it in 2001 when it was still SpeedVision, reportedly because Liberatore had wanted to reduce the number of NASCAR-related shows on the network, and the network brass wanted more NASCAR-related programming. In 2002, Speedvision had collaborated with Disney, causing the channel to resemble the Disney Channel in some ways, making the channel targeted for younger viewers in the preteen and teen age. This angered some network viewers, who fear that SPEED is becoming ever closer to becoming an all-NASCAR channel and the lost of intelligence because of the collaboration of the executives. Liberatore left this message for SPEED viewers on the network's message board. However, NASCAR programming continues to draw viewers to the network. Some SPEED viewers have suggested a second channel for non-NASCAR programming, just like ESPN has with ESPN2.

would you watch a G-wagen get pummeled by the pepperwagon and the touareg in a euro touring race?
