Best handheld shop lamps?

My techs keep breaking the hand held shop lamps! I bought the fluorescent units, added some roll bar padding (which then gets in the way in tight spots, so u guessed it- the padding comes off and surprise! the lamp gets busted again)

Anyone offer a strong LED unit that will stand up to shop abuse?

thanks for the help!!

these led headlamps work well

try this, if they break it at least they get a headache.

Some of the guys have the LED lamps.. they are pretty damn rugged ..

We got them from the Snap-on truck.. I think they are branded by Snap-on.... not sure though

maybe if they pay for their own lights/tools they will treat them better?

i have one of those old beater plastic bodied trouble lights that used incandescents. was blowing those out all the time. got some replacement fluorescents for it and have broken only one bulb in two years.

dropped a tire on it, so any bulb would have failed. the plastic sprung back into a normal shape, still a little warped but fine for me.

Good thought. My Craftsman flourescents have all lasted quite a while.

I noticed that Sears stocks LED lights now...

i've had the same snap-on flourescent light for 11 years.....i've replaced the cord numerous times from pulling it and it's a little warped from years of heat but still works like a champ.

the led lamps are nice but if you crack the board which the leds are mounted to you have to replace the whole assembly....which is more than another bulb.

buy them their next light, but make it clear that if they break it they will replace it with the same with their own $$$

I have a rechargeable craftsman LED that I like. It fits into small places, is virtually indestructible, and cordless. Cheap, too. I don't know if it would hold up to shop usage.

I've got a Craftsman LED drop light; swivel head, magnet & hook for hanging, outlet on the side. Holding up well to typical garage abuse.

Good luck. Every work like I've ever had broke at some point. If they really made a good one, that would be the end of the light business.

x2 on the Snap-on LED though, they seem to last

i hate them all. they always flop sideways or get in the way. a mini maglite in the teeth works fine, along with good shop lighting in the right places. even the maglites don't last forever, but unfortunately nobody makes anything better.

Just get one of these bad boys. The whole shop should be light with this puppy!

Check out the hand held LEDs online at the tool warehouse.

They are the same as the snap-on\MAC\Matco ones, but without the branding, and without the markup.

The LED lights are compact, bright, and rechargable.

Only downside is the lenses are vulnerable to shop solvents (carb cleaner etc.)

When I mechaniced in the 70's/80's we had two pull down incandesants for the three bays. Was always a good supply of bulbs around.

+1. I discovered the same. Old fixtures and the new CFL's work great. With the cage around the lamp, it's hard to break, but not impossible.

I have 3-4 fluorescent work lights. All have lasted for many years. One way I preserve the lens is to wrap with the transparency plastic used in printers/copiers. When they get scratched up I just replace. I use this on my sandblasting hood lens as well.
