Write In Campaign for School Board?

Our neighborhood elementary school is probably closing. This may not be all bad, as the children will have some better opportunities across the tracks, but this isn’t the real issue.

For the second year in a row, our new-ish Superintendent has pulled a Spring Surprise on the parents of the district. He is one of the most arrogant men any of us have ever met, speaks only to the press and releases information (including the 2006-2007 budget!) only after pressure by county or state officials (or attorneys). He refuses to let parents speak at Board meetings (which is against the rules), and has referred to the parents and the children (!) of the small elementary school as “stupid” in the past few weeks - and in public before reporters. He is quite unsuited to his job, yet his new contract negotiations will begin this summer. Naturally, this surprise came up right after the open period for Board nominations was closed. Now three of the parents (me included) are going to attempt a write-in campaign. We’re going to distribute flyers, post a website and create a forum like Pelican for the parents of the district. Anybody ever attempt something like this? Any advice? |

And, by the way, someone mentioned the Champion.org a few weeks back, and they've been very helpful in the past week or so....
