Girl finds missing dog's head in box on doorstep

this story makes me mad.

people who commit such acts should be strung up by their balls and boiled alive.

(I really need to stop reading the news)

------------------

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/15/dog.head.ap/index.html

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (AP) -- A 17-year-old girl who spent weeks looking for her missing dog unwrapped a box left on her doorstep and found the pet's severed head inside, authorities said.

Homicide investigators were looking into the case because of the "implied" terroristic threat, St. Paul Police Sgt. Jim Gray said. The Humane Society of the United States said Wednesday it was offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

"This was extraordinarily heinous," said Dale Bartlett, the Humane Society's deputy manager for animal cruelty issues. "I deal with hundreds and hundreds of cruelty cases each year. When I read about this case, it took my breath away. It's horrible."

After Crystal Brown's 4-year-old Australian shepherd mix,Chevy, wandered away last month, she put up "missing" posters in her neighborhood and went door to door looking for him. She called the St. Paul animal shelter and rode the bus there several times.

"I felt empty," Crystal told the Star Tribune of Minneapolis. "I couldn't talk to anyone. He was my dog. It was just me and him. ... I told him everything and he never shared any of my secrets."

Two weeks ago, a gift-wrapped box was left at the house Crystal shares with her grandmother. The box had batteries on top, and a note that said "Congratulations Crystal. This side up. Batteries included."

Crystal opened the box and found her dog's head inside. The box also contained Valentine's Day candy.

Crystal screamed when she saw her dog's face.

"She was just hysterical," said Crystal's grandmother, Shirley Brown. "She was screaming. She said, 'Grandma, it's my dog's head!'

"I said, 'no it can't be!"'

Authorities say the case is an isolated incident and the suspect likely knew the family. A motive is unclear.

"This was so cruel," Crystal said. "This is one sick, twisted person."

She now has a new puppy, another Australian shepherd. She's named it Diesel. "Hopefully, he'll be my best friend," Crystal said.

Anyone who is able to decapitate a dog is not far away from committing heinous acts with humans. The Valentine's Day stuff makes it sound like a sick, jilted admirer.

I can't imagine how I'd react. There are some sick, sick people out there.

Having said that, the "implied terroristic threat" is a bit of a stretch.

I was thinking ex-boyfriend.

Still, you'd think this would be solved quickly if that was the case.

It seems unlikely but I hope they catch whoever it was.

Animal cruelty ranks right up there with child abuse, in my
opinion. Not quite the same thing, however the intent is there
in both cases.

This person needs to be caught and dealt with as if he abused
a child. Strong prison setences.

A few months ago, some people broke into a pet store / shelter
in San Jose, and beat up all of the animals in the shelter just for
kicks. This story ranks right up there with that one.

Head in the box....just like the movie "Seven"... sick mfer

Yeah that is bizarre. I have such a hard time comprehending some people's inability to empathize.

There was a local case a couple years ago where some kids beat a fawn to death with sticks and rocks. I found that really disturbing, but then again...

1) I have no problem with the *idea* of hunting deer. Couldn't do it myself, but I have no problem with it. Yeah, there is a reason... you end up with food. But many hunt for the thrill.

2) When I was a kid, I performed ungodly acts with firecrackers and frogs. It seems almost alien to me now; I can't even conceive of being able to do that stuff. I think there is a stage many boys go through where they do somee pretty bizarre stuff. Killing cats & dogs seems like a much more serious step though.

Most, or even many, boys DON'T go through a "stage" where they get kicks out of killing or torturing small animals. Don't kid yourself.

Sometimes, I feel like doing the same thing to my neighbors pitbull. Not that I have anything against the dog, it is with the neighbor I have a problem. This guy has no respect for our property. When there was a hedge, he cut a hole in it to get in my backyard pick up the ball the he continuously threw over the hege. Now that I have put a 8 ft privacy vinyl fence, my wife caught him jump it today. In the mean time, he made a big deal when I stored a few logs of wood against his fence on my side. Wants others to respect his property, has no respect whatsoever for theirs. So, I had thoughts about serving him his pitbull head on a stick, to solve the ball throwing problem.

I would assume the "implied terroristic threat" is meant more for the perp threatening the victim, not some kind of National Terrorism. So on that level, it makes sense.

If I was that girl, I would be EXTREMELY paranoid and afraid. The person who did it will be back, unless incarcerated for something else or dead. That girl needs a good security system, should not wander her neighborhood at night, and maybe even get a gun and learn to use it. At first I was thinking maybe it was a neighbor who was sick of hearing a barking dog or cleaning up poo, but the gift-box and valentine theme really puts this up a notch. The more I think about it, she should have a hired security guard.

okay, i just gotta... show me the study done by an impartial group with acess to their data and methods and you may have a point
"excuse me sir, we just want to ask you a few questions.... it seems that you just killed your dog, might you be interested in killing a person next? check A for yes..."
who's the say he/she [okay, he] tortured it? could be a nice clean decapitation for all you know.

There is a big difference between going after animals and people. if it wasn't for the valentine theme, i might think it possible that this dog just chewed on someone's S2000 or something...
as is, it's a sick mofo because of how he emotionally injured the girl.

Why is it necessary to pull scary sounding facts out of thin air simply to make an already sick story seem even sicker?

Well does your neighbor always jump in the same place? Time to booby-trap his landing area.

I'd not do nice things to the person in the story if I found them. I recently saw the movie "300" to quote from the movie. "This will not be over quickly, and you will not enjoy it."

Well known that many of the serial killer types start out with pet-type animals and when that doesn't "get them there" they go for people.

This is not just a CSI factoid. My Dad was really into the serial killer thing and would share some of this information.

I'm sure there is a "study" out there, but you seemed to be unconvinced that just chopping the head off a dog, and putting in a gift box is not "fringe" behavior.

This is the product of a jilted lover:
