Portable DVD repair question

I bought an Emerson portable DVD player the day after thanksgiving. It no longer works and it is out of warranty. I called the manufacturer and their replacement/repair cost is much more than the player. Circuit City, where I bought it, cannot repair it. I called several places locally, but with no luck. Anyone have any idea if there is a repair place that works on these? I keep getting the message "bad disc". I have tried different discs and a cleaner disc. Still get the same thing.

Thanks,
Mike

Buy another? I hate to be wasteful, but for the price of 1 hour repair labor, you could probably get a brand new one.

Does it have a reset pinhole anywhere?

You can try taking out the battery and let it sit for a few days.

Do you have kids? is there a peanut butter smudge on the lasers lens?

Less than a year old I'd be pissed.

Did you buy it with a Citibank CC? often times your CC company will double the warranty. Call them up and see if they offer such a service.

Wonderful throw away society we have become.

I paid cash. No peanut butter on the lens, but it was great for the kids when we do trips. Makes it easier on Mom and Dad for sure. I did not see a pinhole reset. By the looks of it, I am going to have to get another one. Not happy about it at all!

Sucks. That's why the one I bought for the kids/car was $75. If they screw it up or it goes bye bye oh well.

3 years old and still working so I got my moneys worth.
