Sounds right...was there a violin and cello player, their own wine lable and waiters in tuxedos? We got picked up and dropped off at the hotel in their black MB.

Food and service was incredible, like I said best meal i had in Eurpoe. Next time i will dress better than jeans and polo, stupid Americans ;)

You forgot that at the Gundel, not only do the waiters wear tuxedos, but there is one waiter per diner, they also wear white gloves, and they serve each individual diner in a choreographic ballet, each waiter bobbing down to set the plate, all in unison.

Quite a spectacle!!!!!!

And the food is spectacular. We had the best roast boar when we dined there.

Wow, nice pictures!

You should check out the Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson movie "I Spy", in which the Chain Bridge played a very important role at the conclusion. The whole movie was filmed in Buapest, and some great shots of the city. I still can't believe they got that "object" on top of one of the pillars of the Bridge.

Did you try speaking Hungarian? Some wierd language, no? None other like it in the whoile World!!!!

Here's my DB4, I just rebuilt the engine and am trying, between trips to get it roadworthy. Currently, I have a non-functioning brake master cylinder, but I'm supposed to have a rebuild kit in the mail when I get home.

The right hand of King Stephan is in this box (literally) he died in 1093. A lot of people prayed to this monument.

Well, Hungarian women look like, well, Superwomen.

95% of them are blond, or is that 95% of them are catholic? My mohter and sister are blond. Anyway, they are a mixture of so many races (all who used Hungary as a pathway to their other conquests), that Hungarian women are like Polynesian women - a gorgeous mix of many ethnic facial and body characteristics.

And they are intelligent - so you'd better pick carefully.

You should check out the royal crown -- it is in a big museum in Budapest -- I don't think it's in the Buda palace, but near there.

Little known factoid,

After the Nazis were evicted from Budapest in 1945, the American troops took possession of the Crown of St. Stphen (the patron saint of Hungary), along with all the Royal jewels, etc, and they were stored in Fort Knox, Tennessee, until the 70's, following the departure of the Russians from Hungaria soil, when Richard Nixon ordered that they be returned.

So, thank you Americans, one and all, for allowing the Hungarian People to recover their Cultural and National Treasures.

I got to go back soon, I really love that city. Top of my list of European destinations along with Stockholm and Gottland (in the Summer).

BTW, I think I've determined that Fentress-Bradburn was the architect on our amazing two-curve glass curtain wall. Indeed, that portion of our project is my favorite. The glass gives travellers a view of airfield operations and, weather permitting, the Olympic mountain range and Mount Rainier if you look in the other direction. Indeed, this is the one project in which the engineers took their hats off and bowed deeply to the architects. The passenger area protected by the glass, a lounge and food court space, feels like a large, glass and steel and granite........living room. It has an ambiance that is special. Very comfortable.

Someone told me once that Hungarian, Finnish and Turkish have many similarities ; that all three can be traced back to the Mongol invasions; and that none of the three have any similarities with any other European languages.

I have always wanted to go there. I have got to get there B4 I get too feeble to enjoy it.

I heard Magyar and Finnish and or Icelandic are similar and extremely difficult. I couldn't make out any words at all when I was there.

WOW, what a timely post! I am not certain of the exact date yet, but I will be traveling to Budapest after Easter on business for two weeks. Many of the pics posted here look eerily familiar to the ones I've seen online and from co-workers that visited in January. I am looking forward to my trip, as this will be my first time to travel to Europe.

Please, if anyone has any tips, suggestions, etc. for my travel there, please post here or e-mail me. It would be greatly appreciated. We plan on staying in Budapest on the weekend, but will be staying closer to our plant during the week. It's located in Ujhartyan. Any recommendations?

Yep. Hungarian is a very complicated but beautiful language. It is an intermix of multiple languages including some Germanic, Latin, and scandinavian thrown in. As the Huns migrated to the region within the Carpathian mountain range, they came down from the north, and borrowed heavily from the languages of the people groups they interacted with (er, attacked and conquered.)

When I visited Sweden a few years ago, I was surprised by how many words looked and sounded familiar to me. (Hungarian is my mother tongue -- I learned it before English, even though I was born in the USA)
