Szervusz Z-ur,

And that is why it is called "mother tongue", because it is the language your mother taught you (usually the father is out hunting and/or gathering, and doesn't see you for hours at a time).

And that's why my children will have a hard time learning Magyar, since their mother is American, and she speaks English to them while I am hunting and/or gathering.

Isn't life wonderful?

Hi Ian,

Sopron is very near Szombathely, where I was born. Was your wifie born in Sopron? . . . Enjoy the wines of Eger, and check out the Porsche engine factory in Gyor.

My wife was born in Csorna & lived in a village called Jobahaza just to the south. A cousin lives in Sopron. They have a vineyard outside of town.

One of her cousin's sons works at the Audi plant in Gyor. Is there Porsche content there too?

When I was in college, I spent a good part of one summer in Hungary. Met an incredible family there.

Dated the younger sister for 2 months. She finished with me, and her older sister took up where she left off.

What a country.

Please, if anyone has any tips, suggestions, etc. for my travel there, please post here or e-mail me. It would be greatly appreciated. We plan on staying in Budapest on the weekend, but will be staying closer to our plant during the week. It's located in Ujhartyan. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Mike

Anyone? What should I expect while in Ujhartyan or in Budapest? Places to go, stay away from?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike

As I'm sure you know, Ujhartyan is about 25 miles SE of Budapest. Here's some general Budapest links:

Budapest Tourism

From what I've heard, it's easy to rent a car to get around. That's what we plan to do. There are numerous rental sites - even Avis & Hertz. Bear in mind, Hungary is 0 Tolerance for drinking & driving.

For good travel info see Foder's Forums & search on Hungary.

Thanks for the links Ian. I'll definitely check them out!

I am traveling on business, and it has been decided that we'd have a driver for the first few days to get used to the 'traffic' and the nomenclature. Then we'll rent a car from then on. I am really looking forward to the trip, as it'll be my first time in Europe. I'm curious what everyone thinks of Ujhartyan as well, since that's where our plant is located, and we'll most likely be staying during the week.

Thanks again,
Mike
