My 96 850 just screwed the pooch - bad injector and throttle plate. I'm looking at $1500 in repairs. I love the car but I will get rid of her for another. Looking at a 2002 V70T. Shooting Brakes are only a few degrees better than a mini-van in terms of coolness. Then again, I'm a nuetuered, ugly, fat 43yr old with a few kids and plenty of worries. The Volvo seems to provide a certain amount of security and safety in an unsecure, unsafe world.

I think I will buy the 2002 V70.

We had a V70AWD and it was great in the snow. I wanted a V70R, but never took the plunge. I drove one and the power delivery was very smooth and definitely more than ours even though we had ours chipped.

We ultimately traded the Volvo for a 2000 BMW 528iT and absolutely love it. The inline six sound is addictive in a similar way that a flat six is! With a growing family, though, we will probably need something bigger. The BMW would be fine for us, but every time someone visits we end up taking two cars. I will list it in the BMW classifieds, but here is a preview. It has 77k miles, new tires, and several recent services. $16,500.

FWIW my 94 850 wagon got 28 mpg on a recent trip to Florida from PA. 115,000 miles and does not leak a drop. I bought it at 105,000. Research I did before I bought told me no turbos - expensive repairs and more gas, and no AWD - expensive repairs. I love the way it rides and handles. I would buy another. I am now a Volvo Evangelist. Never looked at them twice before. Drive one - you won't believe it.

Bought the V70T today. I was really surprised at not only how well it handled but how fast it is. I'll have to post some pics.
