Top 10 stolen cars for your state.

I found this earlier today while looking up some title transfer information, and thought it was interesting to see which cars are stolen in which states! Though, I found it kinda sad the cars that were stolen here in Indiana:

1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass
1997 Chevrolet Cavalier
1997 Ford Taurus
1995 Pontiac Grand Am
1990 Buick LeSabre
1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88
1988 Chevrolet Full Size C/K 1500 Pickup
1997 Ford F150 Series
1991 Chevrolet Caprice
1991 Chevrolet Blazer

Mind you the poll was last updated in 2004, so it's a little out of date..

That's interesting data, though it's a bit raw. It would be more interesting to explain why those cars are the most often stolen -- eg, compare statistics for what kind of market share each of those cars have, what kind of anti-theft measures those cars have, demographics about who owns or where they park those cars, etc.

I would think this data might be under reported. I bet a large percentage of 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass owners didn't report their car was stolen simply because they didn't care!

Traditionally, these cars have been stolen for parts, and many of the cars most often stolen are the ones with maximum parts interchangeability with others -- small block GM motor/trans combos have lots of applications.

Just a quick look, but it seems no cars get stolen in Massachusetts

I knew Hondas would be tops in Florida.

Look at this dork.

Teen confesses to stealing over 170 Hondas.

Yep, what cars are stolen most are the most common cars, not the most desirable/rare. It's probably much faster and easier money to steal a car and part it out than it is to deal in a rare car or it's parts. You can probably sell the fenders, lights, doors to a Pontiac Grand Am or Honda Civic to any one of thousands of places in a big city, but there probably aren't many shops that need 911 fenders, etc....

Just look at Texas.

Texas

1. 1994 Chevrolet Full Size C/K 1500 Pickup
2. 1997 Ford F150 Series
3. 1996 Honda Accord
4. 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup
5. 2000 Honda Civic
6. 1994 Chevrolet Suburban
7. 1990 Toyota Camry
8. 1994 GMC Full Size C/K 1500 Pickup
9. 1997 Ford Taurus
10. 2002 Ford Explorer

What do we have a lot of here in Texas, yep, you guessed it, lots of trucks.
