Exclamation 964 vs. 968 in excellence magazin

Unfortunately, they (www.excellence-mag.com) don't publish the article online. You can only see the according picture. Go have a coffee at the local book store and read it - it's out right now.

What I liked was not only the comparison performance wise, but also the price/market analysis:
what it comes down to is that the 964 has not fully realized it's value yet.

YEP! I agree. It might be wishfull thinking, 'cause I just bought a 964 , but I would bet anyone (a good cup of german coffee) that it'll realize it's value soon and might still be a good buy.
Are the prices already going up ??? I HOPE SO.

Okay I might be a show-off, but I cannot resist attaching a pic of my 964 again.

I read that article. As "ok" as the 944 series is (I had one for 2 years) there's just nothing like a 911. Nice-looking 964 you've got there.

It was interesting to me to see the horsepower/torque numbers side by side. suprising how two radically different engine designs had such similar output numbers.

I read it too. I was surprised at the author's intimation that the 964's dash design was so old fashioned. I don't think it is at all. And having owned a 944 S2 for almost ten years since new I have to agree that it is a better balanced car. But it had some awfully cheap features (try finding one without a broken glove box door) that the 964 didn't even begin to approach. I currently own a 993- I miss the 944 but not so much I'd give up a 993 or a 964 for it.

Just read it yesterday....Pretty LAME in my book....Mainly since they just did a 968/911 article a few months ago.......Either of the articles would have been fine, but by publishing both, it's looks like they're getting pretty hard up for material.......

I'll have to check it out. The writer must not be a Porsche guy to say

As he cl;early has no clue thatForm follows Function and one of the reason I'm not a fan of much after 98, the dash, mirrors, even door handles look like something off a Ford. I went from a 964 back too an 88 Carrera, funny thing, the 88 is worth more One of the reasons people use to buy Porsches was that they maintained their classic lines, other than the way they drive, and last, that is part of what drew me too Porsche.

Love the 944 line (obviously, I own three specimens) but I'd trade all three of 'em (including my turbo) for a GOOD 911. To date, nobody's taken me up on the offer. That kinda' says something.

The article was to make up for last month were all the other cars but the 968 had suspension packages or up grades. People though the 968 didn't have a fair shake.
Reading the article peaked my interest in the 964. I may have to look at one. I especially like the lower coefficient of friction and higher top speed of the 964

Does anyone else find Excellence just sort of...well...boring? You just never find a good pic of a 911 in that magazine with the a$$ end hanging out sideways at speed around a corner.

Nothing wrong with the 944/968 that attention to detail and a more intelligent engine design couldn't have fixed.

What are you talking about, the last 944s & all 968s were great out of the box, and still make a great all around driver. As long as you maintain them, but are bulletproof!!

Upside down oil filter

Timing/balance belt (latter needed because of four cylinder design; a five or six would not require an extra fifty pounds of contra-rotating mass; expensive tool required to assure against premature failure

Need to practically remove drivetrain to replace clutch

Iffy differential gearing, especially in the later 968

More electrical gremlins than I care to list, although the electric window switches take the cake and changing the fan motor?

As a 944 owner, tell me how I know all of this.....

Great looking and great handling car but the drivetrain was definitely designed by a committee.

Well, I've owned water cooled Porsches since 85, and while whar you describe is accurate, that doesn't mean there is a better way. I've only had from a 78 924 to an 89 turbo, been tracking 944s since 87, and crewing since the mid 90s. Many things worth owning requir special tools.

Any 20+ old cars have issues, even 944s.

My experience, 944s are solid well-built cars. I drive mine everyday. It's been 3 yrs since it was in the shop.

actually, just this morning I was looking at the comparison article on the 997 GT3, 997 GT3RS and the GT3 Cup car.

All three shots were ass end out

I like this magazine, but like any mag, it has its weaknesses. Personally, I like any comparisons like these as they are more "real world" to me.

I'll never own a real RS, RSR etc.
