MCain proves how safe Baghdad is

Sen. McCain walked through a market inside the Green Zone for a couple minutes today to prove how safe it really is -- if you're wearing a flak jacked, surrounded by 100 troops and have air cover from 3 Blackhawks and 2 Apache Gunships.

Just like an average Iraqi.

Impressive.

In a press conference he said something to the affect that Americans are'nt getting the real story. Talk about being disconnected from reality. If the average boot had the same level of protection there would be zero casualties. Except of course casualties from friendly fire and attempts to to cover it up.

Well, he is not just your average American.... would be a big prize to
be kidnapped or "painted red"...so I dont blame him for wearing the
flak jacket. Guy has been through torture before, so a little death scare
probably doesnt phase him much.

I imagine a prominent Republican would also need similar protection in many areas of California.

30% of Americans can't be all wrong now can they? While McCain was trying to put on a good show and to bolster his failing campaign 6 more Americans KIA...Let's not forget he was 3mins out of the green zone...yep, the surge is working.

It certainly is unfortunate that Shia death squads and Sunni jihadists and Baathists are still so dedicated to mass murder. Killing a US Senator would be quite the score for either of them. It's good to hear McCain claim that Baghdad is a safer city since the last time he was there.

Flint, pls do not post things like this while Techie is thumping his chest over there in SoCal. Posts like this are his way of trying to get the loyal Democrats riled up to vote this coming election.

Question... where were the Democrats in the market? Guess that they forgot to visit with McCain...

I think we're being lied to about how this "surge" is being implemented.

We were told the Iraqis would "lead" and our troops would back them up. But in the first full month of this new program, 44 Iraqi soldiers died vs 81 Americans.

Mmmm....... no helmet.

could it be that there's nothing in there worth saving?

McCain's done....no vision, no money, not enough balls to stand up to Bush's idiocy, etc.

Actually most strippers I know are pretty conservative. Most are for lower taxes, seeing how most don't pay taxes already. Not many are for revitalization of urban areas, cause there goes the place of employment... It goes on and on.

I hear Baghdad is quite hot. McCain will probably get a good tan just being outside.

Americans don't know a lot about the Green Zone because the media doesn't talk about it much. It's walled off and guarded like a military base. All the diplomats, their families and even the Iraqi "government" live inside it. Maybe 5 or 6 square miles. It's a different world from the rest of Iraq, where soccermoms can be seen jogging the streets every day... though I wonder about things now with McCain wearing a flak jacket. He may not have needed it--why wasn't he wearing a helmut? Looks like a photo-op. The Green Zone is supposed to be completely safe. That's where the bureaucracy lives.

The Green Zone is doing us more harm than good. If the palace walls came down the real truth would be there for all to admit.

Bush invaded Iraq to bring "democracy" to the people of Iraq. Now they are couped up in 5 or 6 square miles of living space while the rest of the population gets slaughtered. Bring it on!

Word was spread on the streets of Bagdad that if anyone hurt McCain, M.C. Rove would fly in and bust a cap in their ass.

You long for the good old days when the Baathist government had the monopoly on slaughtering Iraqi civilians?

In retrospect: People get the government they deserve. That applies to Iraq and to the US. In a perfect world, dictators would not exist. In our world, they come and go, causing much suffering while they are in charge. As long as the people of a country allow leadership without question they will slide into situations that are harmful. That is the beauty of our system. I even welcome the tiff between Congress and the Administration. It causes stalemate and viola!! no extreme action taken. The past few years should have proven what happens when one branch of government acquires too much influence.
