Are Americans buying fewer cars? No. They’re just not buying GMs.

It's not like there aren't examples of very succesful small cars. Just look at the winners over the past 90 years, and the formula becomes pretty apparent:

-Model T (~20 yrs, ~15 million)
-Volkswagen Beetle (~60 yrs, 21 million)
-Citroen 2CV (~40 yrs, ~10 million)
-Austin Mini (~40yrs, ~5 million cars)

Small, basic, and just ugly enough to be cute.

GM is just playing their same old game. They blame everyone else for their problems… the Asians, the unions, the government.

The fact is, GM is still building the cars they WANT us to buy, instead of the cars we want to buy. Do you really believe that GM, with all their resources, couldn’t build a better car than Toyota or Honda? I say they just don't want to, and want to eliminate any advantages for those who do.

And what does it get in the city or your daily commute?

What would that same engine get in a smaller, more aerodynamic package? Do we need 320HP in a family hauler that carts around one person 80%+ of the time it is in operation?

This summer's gas prices will likely beat last summer's prices. Who will be *****ing then?

What would happen if GM and Ford only produced large trucks and vans for commercial use while limiting the public to smaller vehicles that are more efficient? If they are to produce SUV's and vans for general public purchase, why not limit those vehicles to some benchmark of efficiency?

So instead of concentrating marketing dollars and engineering effort on large vehicles, would there be a return if comparable effort were to be used to produce fun, safe and efficient vehicles?

With my 20 gallon fuel cell in my little German car it will be I that is laughing and pointing fingers at the SUV drivers this summer. Although they may be laughing and pointing because my car looks like Picachu...

I buy gas once a month if I need to or not!

GM and Ford are swirling around the bowl at this point...and it's about goddamn time they reap what they've sown.
