It's very true: given enough money and time, _anything_ can be fast. The old VW's are a remarkably good platform for racing -- same layout as a 911, dontcha-know, and way light. Unfortunately, it does require a huge amount of both time and money to make a Bug fast.

They are a VERY good platform for a race car. I happen to own a Beetle "race car".

Sorry Tim. They made me do it.

B@stards...all of you!

First my trip to Florida gets cancelled, then I have to see more tricked out Beetles! Don't make me pull my Beetle into my shop and start cutting crome moly tubing!

That is the one I was thinking about!!! I know they have done a few, but this is the one that sticks in my head. Thanks for finding it!! I use to have the link to a site with the Cup races on video, but I can't seem to find it!! Tim, if it was me (this is on my Project to do list, BTW) I would go with the 944 Turbo susb & brakes, a 901 5 speed, and a Jake Raby big bore type IV

Paint it Orange use widened Porsche steel wheels with VW hub caps. I want a Super Sleeper

It isn't about the money, and it doesn't cost as much as some think to build, but the looks on your PCA buddies faces when you pass them at the track, priceless

I just did the front suspension and disc brake upgrade and rode shotgun while my brother handed a 240Z his ass on twisty back roads up by the Sutter Buttes. You do not have to spend a lot of money to make a super beetle a total slot car, and big power would bolt right in.

I have seen and ridden in a street driven Super with an aluminum V-8

914 guys are not the only ones with hybrids

The hot swap off-road at least are the Scooby engines. They are flat fours so they fit nicely. WRX anyone?

I've seen a lot of dune buggy beetles at the beach. And I can't remember where else...oh yeah, Vice City (video game). I've always thought they looked neat.

When I see a car with brakes that are bigger than the wheels that came on the car I get suspicious
