Today's "barn finds"

Well, I get a call from a fellow who owns some storage buildings who wants to clean them out...seems these cars were abandoned decades ago...hehe (insert evil grin here).

After digging through 2 piles of trash I locate 2 "diamonds in the rough"..a 1965 Corvair Corsa and a 1966 Corsa! (nah, not the turbo versions, just the 4-carb set-up)...Solid cars, no rust (floorpans solid) and a few spare engines, some widened steel wheels, all sorts of goodies like steering boxes, etc...Have not gone through all of it yet.

Yes, I'm in Heaven...but wait...the plot thickens...

THEN he says: "Got another oldie down the row here...you might want to look at this one too, I need the space" so I open the door thinking "oh, probably an old junker" andfind a 1928 Buick 4door (the doors open and close perfectly), a nailhead 6, and the "trunk" still on the back! Needless to say, This might be one of my best finds yet, and totally out of the blue because I'm known as one of the "Corvair guys". Yes, I'm a happy man!

Not really fussed with the Corvair's but that Buick is something else! Nice find.

I wonder how many 356 Speedsters have been abandoned in some "barn"?

A few years ago when I was still living in England my Father had a friend called Dennis who was interested in bubble cars (micro cars or whatever you wnat to call them). Anyway, he decides he want to buy a Messerschmitt and after looking around for a while without much luck decides to put a 'Wanted' ad in the paper.
One night Dennis gets a phone call from a guy who claims to be a local farmer. He asks if he's speaking to the guy who was looking to buy a Messerschmitt, then goes on to say that he has one in his barn that has been sitting there for years. Dennis was interested at this point, he had some mechanical skills and wasn't shy of a restoration project, so he started asking questions about the condition it was in. The 'farmer' tells him that it's in fairly bad shape as it's been sitting there for years, the wings are in poor shape and the propeller's bent from when it crashed in his field.
Dennis never followed this up as he was convinced it was someone he know playing a practical joke - but wouldn't that be a find!

Did your Father ever find "his" bubble car or did he give up on the idea?

Yeah, it would probably look something like this:

Nice Buick! Even in that condition, that's easily a $3-5k car. Let me know if you decide to pick it up, I'd be happy to introduce you to my contacts in the pre-war Buick community.

I was the Underbidder on an English Flintlock Double Barrel Shotgun in immaculate shape...$3975 closed out the deal. A cupla really clean pre WW2 Colt SAAs were on the same bill, they closed out at under 3k each, for which I was the underbidder also.

While I'm busy crusing different auction sites I have come across an older resto on an MGTD, 41 Chevy, 48 Lincoln Continental 4 dr (fantastic condition). Several mid 60s Cads, and a 76 Cad Convert with 1800 orginal miles. Among others.

I hope its just a matter of time before I see a P car of vintage.

Wow that's awesome! I love old cars! The real metal on those oldies beats the snot out of the nearly-all plastic of new cars.

Here's my '31 Buick sitting next to my 993:

It just needs the interior finished. It runs pretty good. It gets to be a pain to keep running smoothly once the engine warms up and I haven't quite got the hang of it yet. I have to manually advance the spark with a choke lever.

It was my Father's friend who was after the Messerschmitt, and he did find one in the end - and not a Bf109 either!

Rouxroux - I think that's exactly what was being hinted at. Despite the fact that it sounded like a joke it would have been interesting to investigate. Where we lived there were several downed aircraft during the war, but the chances of someone getting hold of one is highly unlikely.

Your finds look amazing! That's the sort of find that a lot of people dream about. I'd love to find someting like that.
