This is a sick machine-Audi R8

http://www.audiusa.com/audi/us/en2/new_cars/R8.html

I'd take a hard look at this if I were in the market for a car in this price range. I think its gorgeous.

I don't really like the looks of the car, but pictures on the internet are worthless. I thought the Cayman looked terrible until I saw one in person.

the r8 is built by lambo for audi...i understand that it is built off the gallardo from what people i know told me...odd that they say it is built in germany (same plant as the 944 series was done in)
either way it is a cool car

All the magazines are calling it a threat to the 911...or 911 killer...or...

I think it looks like another 4,000 bloated Audi.

Impressive numbers but I wouldn't worry - I'm sure the U.S. version will be typically half the car its European cousin is. Dumbed-down, de-tuned and with extra cupholders, DVD screens and wider seats for the fat-assed American driver.

The problem is all Audis turn to crap in around 5 years. For some odd reason, kinda like VWs.

Hmmm, my S4 is 7 yrs old and approx 90K miles and hasn't turned to crap yet. I do tend to take care of my stuff, though.

I agree with the heavy part though. The car eats tires and I'd like it a lot more if it shed 500 lbs.

Here's a pic--I'm surprised at the haters here. All wheel drive, 420hp, dry sump, mid-engine, race heritage, contemporary design.

"contemporary design"

Thats one way to put it. 'Odd' is another.

Again, I don't like to pass judgement on cars until I am looking at them with my own eyes. But the panel behind the door.....wtf? I don't get it. It totally disrupts the cars lines.

The front looks pretty sweet. The wicked looking headlamps, and the giant air scoops underneath are tight. Really agressive.

It looks like the same basic shape as a lot of sportscars, including the new Porsches. Except they tried to make it look a bit different--for the worse. You put low drag coeficient in the computer, this is what you get out--more or less.

Wait until you see the racing version. I'll try to get a picture in the next few weeks.

The 911 killer bit makes me laugh, who is it again that just bought a huge stake in the VAG group? Oh that would be good old Porsche then! The R8 will probably fit nicely betwean the GT3 and the 911 Turbo, more gap filler than killer!

I have to admit its a fine looking car though.

I like it, the blacked out panel does look goofy but I think that is an option i.e. I think I have seen pictures of the car without it.

Not that I'm in any danger of dropping 100 large on a car anytime soon.

Like this, althought I can't figure why the back end of the car is so far up in the air.

Beauty is subjective - but to me that is one of the very ugliest cars I have ever seen. On par with a Pontiac Aztec.

One of the car magaizine put it up to a 911, and the 911 ate it for dinner.
