Blu-Ray DVD player advice?

I'm getting the impression that Blu-Ray will be the dominant format in the high-def DVD realm. What's the best player? I'm getting the impression the Samsung BD-P1200 is a true 2nd generation player, likely better than the Sony BDP-S1. What do you guys think?

How does the price of a Blu-Ray player compare to the price of a Playstation 3 that has one built in?

There is the LG unit that plays both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray for $1200...

Playstation 3 doesn't up-res standard DVDs. Who knows what other features are missing, and the last thing I need is a 30 hr/week distraction!

I've read duo players don't work perfectly with either format, trying to be master of everything. I can live without watching HD DVD titles.

The Samsung can be picked up at a local Circuit City for $800. They offer a pretty good in-house 5 year warranty for $130, too. I don't think these things are completely sorted out yet, so exchanging it locally could work out well.

The PS3 is one of the best BD players available. Boot up, disc access speed and picture quality are outstanding (and you get a great gaming console too).

Regarding DVD upscaling, it was reported a couple of weeks ago that a firmware update will be available soon to enable upscaling of SD DVDs on the PS3.

My understanding is that the PS3 architecture is extremely under-utilized at present and that it is capable of alot more in the future. It's upgrade potential, just by hooking it up to the internet, has to be an attractive feature. Did you also know that there is a Linux operating system for it?
I think the PS3 is far more powerful and capable than most people realise.

I know what you mean about the distraction though. I don't have one, but my kids bought their's over one weekend.
