Moving to FL. Wellington or Boynton?

Family of 4, kids are 7 and 4.

Need excellent schools.

Daughter is currently in gifted programs.

We recently had her evaluated again to get the paperwork for FL schools. 138 IQ, 99th percentile across the board.

Son just tested within a point of her when she was evaluated at 3.5 so we anticipate a similar growth path for him.

So Boynton or Wellington and why?

Thx

In laws live in Boynton. Been there a number of times.

Was down in Feb for 2 weeks and scoped out 50 houses in Wellington.

My mom is in Boca so fairly familiar with the general areas.

Wellington is nice and has developed into a really nice 'horse' community. Down side is it's further from the coast. Boynton is closer to the water, homes tend to be older but still a nice area.

Guess it depends on your needs!

I lived in Boynton for about 10 years and Boynton gets my vote. Traffic is really bad going into town and returning. The area is built up too much out west of town.

Floridas Schools suck. Especially to someone coming from NY.

Boyton, Wellington take your pick your coming to a pit when it comes to public education.

My advise? Downsize the purchase of your home to something nice, in a working class neighborhood and use the money saved for private schools.

Our "Education Govenor" has done nothing to improve the dismil state our schools are in.

Wellington is more of a yuppie well to do area. Corvette in every other garage keep up with the jones' type of place.

Boynton is a tad older (east) and much like Wellington (out west) I would imagine you want to be out west in the newer areas.

Ummm, Wellington sounds a nice place. That's me speaking from Wellington New Zealand. We're a town of about 500,000 mainly drug users a few alcoholics and dirty underclass of real estate investors.

Wellington is very nice and new (new developments, new mall, new streets and farther from the coastline). Boynton is very nce also and not so new. Check out the schools though, I'd assume that the ones in Wellington would be better than in Boynton but that is only a guess.

hurricanes blow them apart
go with older better built homes
unions and craftmanship have really declined
I work as a land surveyor and am saddened by the junk building
that current developers do, as cheap as they can, is the new rule
with low bid unskilled labor

before 1950 is best
60 to 70's ok
after that JUNK that looks good

I am a surveyor too and agree. There are a few home builders that stand out.

Look for Royal Professional Builders and DiVosta Homes they build tilt wall homes that really stand up.

Royal Pro is developing a Hurricane Proof home as well.

Like I said if you have kids the schools suck. Thank Jeb for doing nothing other than branding aname for himself rather than fixing a problem. At least no child is "left behind" now they all are stupid.

Why on earth would you move to FL? I lived there for 16 years and cashed out right on top of the real estate bubble late last year. There are numerous tails of woe from sellers who've had their homes on the market for over a year. I sincerely believe the home market in FL hasn't bottomed yet.

Be sure you check ALL of the expenses involved in homeownership in FL. MAJOR sticker shock for taxes and especially INSURANCE. You may be looking at 20-70 % increases each and every year from now on.

I moved to Boca when my children were 3 and 5. Schools sucked had to send them to private schools BUT they enjoyed the year round activities and were not locked up all winter. Schools may be better now, don't know but the kids loved it.

I forgot to mention, South Fl. PCA club is great and you can go racing every weekend if you want. Moroso is a great track.

Come up north here to Alachua county, we have several good magnet schools and the "normal" public school I'm zoned for is doing good with out daughter, who scored a tad higher on her RAIS test last year.

Number 1 reason. Family. They are all there now. We are basically by ourselves up here.

I'm aware of the home owner insurance and tax issues. Don't like it but there are trade offs.

Bully for you Nota.

You would think with improving technology and more advanced engineering - the opposite would be true.

But the only advances are in building faster and making more money..
