Any chemists in the house?

I need some help figuring out a chemical recipe (and before you ask the answer is NO, I'm not making meth in my bath tub). So if we have any chem majors out there, drop me a PM.

Why not post your question here if it is not about meth or WMDs ?

Well, it's an interesting mix.....
Since your Glycerine and carbon are decent fuels and the Sulfuric acid is a great oxidizer it would be an interesting mix from the get-go. However, if you REALLY want to make it exciting, you would have to "nitrate" the glycerine with Nitric acid.... Then you would have some fun.

would't glycerine with sulferic acid cover the nitrating part?

obviously simplifying the stuff , takes more then just chucking both in a jar and shake&stirr

Sulfuric acid IS used in the process, but Nitric acid is a key component in making Nitroglycerin Csub3 Hsub5 (NOsub3) sub3.

Sorry for the (sub) above, I can't figure out how to use subscripts here on the posting

Yeah, as long as you've got the NSA tuned into this thread might as well add the ATF too.

Nitroglycerin is what the laymen call it. Glyceroltrinitrate is the real name and yes, I've made it.
My father worked for Hercules when I was young, his specialty was explosives and shape charges back when there was very little known about the field. He was a rain-man type of engineer who wasn't good at people skills. The only way he knew to interact with me was to teach me chemistry. I had the periodic table basically memorized when I was six.
My mom didn't like it when we filled her pressure cooker with nitric acid, but at least I wasn't running wild.
We also made trinitrotoluene.

Degree in Anarchists Cookbook Oh the fun we had... Weekend in the hospital was no fun though, nor the months of recovery to my burned hand....

Tim, Did you study with Dr Lee at Southern? (or was he at Central? hmmm) Anyway, I remember when I was at UCONN he was a reall hotshyt in the forensic world - making all sorts of headlines with the OJ case et al.

I think Dr. Lee is at Southern and U of New Haven. He wasn't at UConn when I was there. He sure did make a career for himself after the OJ case though.
