Last summer when I was going through a really rough break-up and custody battle, my 911 was my best friend.
Working on my car was the best way for me to forget about how f'ed up my life was. It stuck with me through thick and thin, and was always loyal. Unlike my ex.

Similar thing for me about 11 years ago. Wife ran off with some guy she worked with so I concentrated on working on my car and doing track events, etc. The whole Porsche community was like a second family...

It certainly did. It made me feel good to walk outside and see it in the driveway. Just seeing it sitting there, ready, waiting, willing, was enough to make every day a good one. Sliding into the low slunk cockpit and listening to the big 4 turn itself over, while dropping the e-brake usually evoked a grin; at the very least, warm feelings.
I could go on forever about how much I loved my car and how driving it made me feel like the coolest guy around, but no one really wants to hear that:-P So, in a nutshell, my little 944 got me through many a rough patch. Oh my god I want my car back...

Yep...strangely, some financial tough times. I'd mention to Cindy we should sell her...Cindy would say no, we'll work it out another way. Kind of Ironic that I decided to sell her now, when the problem isn't financial. Just that I got weary of it all.

Any time I feel stressed or angry or just need to relax, I hop in the car and go for a drive. I always feel better when its over. On a day to day basis, I smile a little bit every single time I slide into the driver's seat and throw it into gear. It's especially apparent to me now that I am at school and my car is at home. I haven't even seen it for 6 weeks now and it is killing me. I cannot wait to get home and go a spirited drive in the countryside.

What IROC said +1. I spent most of 1996 going to any track event I could and most of it was with the POC. It was good therapy, but expensive. At least it's all finally paid off now........

I would rebuild cars during bad streches and finally figured out that it was a metaphor for rebuilding my life. Didn't matter the kind of car; at the time it was Corvairs.
