Cool Big Day For Me

It's finished.

I just put the final touches on my Master's Thesis, "OUR ORWELL, RIGHT OR LEFT: How a mixed reception history, changing political climate, and selective blindness have allowed a writer to become Patron Saint of both ends of the partisan debate."

I am very proud of the paper, but, needless to say, I am a little nervous - assuming it passes through my advisors, it now goes into peer review. If it is accepted, it is published by Trinity College. If it isn't, I don't graduate this May.

I am pretty sure I will graduate, but I am going to hold off opening the champagne until I hear back from my advisor...

Congrats. Sounds like an interesting paper. Please direct us to where it is published (when it is published).

Well, it would be published by the College, so it would really only be available through interlibrary loan. If it is accepted, however, I am considering sending it to scholarly journals and academic publishing firms.

Congrats!!!
Ahhh advisers.. Made my life a living hell for a while!!! Then peer review.
To me that was easier, when you know the subject the questions are actually fun to answer and it sounds like you have put much into it.
Cheers!!

Congrats!

Do you have to do thesis defense? Always fun. I'm sure you'll do fine in any case.

If it gets published, post it up!

Good Job Dude! Interesting title and topic. Sounds like a good article topic for the Atlantic or the New Yorker!

Yes - congrats. I remember it as great and also sad when I finished my graduate school thesis. It meant the end of a road in some respects.

Jeff, I don't think I'll have to do a defense. I can't imagine the school trying to fit that in between now and when I get my degree (May 20th).

Thanks for the kind words from everyone else. Yes, dd74, it is a little sad in a way; then again, I am already looking at PhD programs...

You didn't have any quotes from fastpaste in there did you?

I'm sure it will be accepted and all will be well in the world.

Congrats

Good for you. My program terminated at Masters. Then it was time to work for a living. I may still go for a PhD, though in a different concentration.

Well, I am more-or-less on the fast track for University teaching. I've already done some student teaching at Trinity College, and if I enroll in a PhD program (probably UConn), I would be a paid "associate professor" (read: student teacher). So, my continued education would pretty much go hand-in-hand with working for a living. It may be awhile before I'm earning enough to live on (bartending on weekends will almost certainly continue), but it's a start...

CJ - I've heard, though, that there is a glutton of University Lit. teachers in the United States. Have you heard anything similar to this?

It's possible, but I've never heard it. At least around here, it seems like everyone is looking for a good University-qualified lit teacher. Actually, pretty much everyone I knew who studied English in college and grad school was interested in elementary and HS ed.
