Pelican is a mini-America

And just like the U.S., the shrill whine of misguided liberals is drowning out productive debate.

Try asking a liberal about:

-Global Warming
-The Iraq War
-Any Big Government Program

If you disagree with them, you will be met with condescending disbelief, then repeated non-sensical sound bites that allegedly "prove" their argument.

Some samples:

"10,000 scientists say its so."

Really? I didn't know the standard for what constituted a fact was consensus.

"We were misled."

Hmmm...seems like those that were "misled" aren't competent to do their jobs...

"Only the government can fix this problem."

Mankind existed for tens of thousands of years without big government. People got along fine interacting person to person. Why do we need it now?

"all liberals are (insert derogatory adjective here)"

If you really wanted to elevate the debate on this forum, you would post your flame-bait elsewhere!

In another thread yesterday Democrats were called socialists, traitors, and pussies...so what's new?

Baiting? If they're not doing that they're breaking their own arms patting themselves on their own backs for how many firearms they own, waxing sentimental over the good ole days or name calling the people they are terrified of, like Hillary, Obama, Edwards, et al.

They delude themselves into thinking that the Pelican OT is representative of a "mini-America"?...if that were true how did Gore win the popular vote in '04? No answer? Because it isn't REMOTELY a mini-America. Not with guys celebrating the Confederacy and doubting the existence of Global Warming.

Hello ?!??

Feeling slightly excluded here!

And BTW, this compulsive liberal-conservative obsession is bordering on the absurd.

Although, entertaining from time to time..

The Republicans had thier chance, they screwed up, they chose Bush to lead them.

The course they are taking America on is driving it into the ground.

What other option do people have than to vote for someone other than a Republican?

Shh! Don't spoil the real premise of this thread.

BTW...I've heard there is a psychologist working on a study proving that identifying oneself as a liberal is a mental disorder. Fortunately, testosterone therapy has been shown to reverse the negative effects of the disorder.

After 2+ years of trying to follow countless numbers of threads on the subject, it is about time I opened a dictionary to find out what typically defines an American liberal vs a conservative..

And for the record, I canīt define a socialist either.

Many (most?) of you seem completely connected to one or the other of the two 'teams'. I find it hard to understand that any individual would 'happen' to agree with everything on one of the 'teams' agenda - and nothing on the otherīs.

What would you call someone agreeing equally with both teams agenda although on different issues ? A liberative or a consiberal ??

When you figure it out, I'm betting the majority of us Americans would like to know which "label" they belong to also ! You may not get this impression from PPOT political threads, but most "regular" folks that I associate with aren't preoccupied with politics and thusly, "liberal" and "conservative" never come up. In my circle of friends/acquantances, pick an issue, and the opinions will fall on both ends (and middle) of the spectrum depending upon the topic at hand.

Baby boomer progressives will soon be entering retirement. Oldies have a significantly higher % of active voters. Today it's anti-war activists vs mid-America. Tomorrow it'll be oldies vs those paying for their social bennies.

What's the difference between a Scotsman and a Rolling Stone?

A rolling Stone says:
"Hey you, get off of my cloud"

A Scotsman says:
"Hey, MacLeod, get off of my yew!"
