Ketchup or blood?

Just curious, why would a top flight pitcher like Shilling want to paint his sock with ketchup and draw attention to an injury?

I am suprised watching those games back in 2004, why didn't the yankees and cards bunt more?

I know situation reversed and the yankees ace being hobled, I would want the Sox to bunt and get him out of the game.

I am wondering how those not in the Redsox nation view this. Not to mention, why would a well respected Orioles announcer bring this up now.

This is an example of somebody in the media creating a totally absurd story, which predictably was picked up by the rest of the media who ran with it seriously. The media talking about the media. A disturbing trend in a country oversaturated with too much media.

Schilling was victimized probably because he "sinned" against the media--criticizing one of them, Boston's infamous CRB, as an a***ole. He also writes his own blog and chats on internet sports groups--which the media does not appreciate.

C'mon.

It's a conspiracy started and promulgated by Yankees fans because it's the only way they can get even with Schill - 'cause God knows they can't do it on the field!!!

Don't hate - appreciate.

Would not mention this around Curt... he is a very nice guy (nicer in person, used to rent a house from a friend of mine and we got to know him) and should someone bring this up, they might just see some real blood, and it would not be Curt's...

Joe

PS This story is BS. Do some homework before posting crap like this.

Curt Schilling injured his ankle/leg years ago that required stitches. Continued playing even with blood showing through his sock after he pulled one or more of the stitches out. Camera guys caught it showing on the white sock while he was on the mound and blasted it everywhere showing that he was not only playing in pain but was bleeding.

Now some idiot in a locker room makes a joke that it was paint or catsup, a reporter overhears it and turns it loose. Someone else posts it and now all sorts of people are believing that Curt was playing games with people, which he was not.

Actually it wasn't quite as simple as stitches. Schilling had a tendon trapped against bone in his ankle. The usual treatment is an open operation that would have sidelined him for the post season. Schilling's doctor thought he might be able to take a really thick sturdy suture, pass it around the tendon and secure it to the skin. This would physically pull the tendon away from the bony impingement and might allow him to play.

It's a "bailing wire and duct tape" approach to delay surgical treatment. Somehow it worked. I have no doudt the blood was real. Those were some big, thick sutures passing through his ankle.

Probably attached to some really big balls somewhere "up North"... That man can pitch and have heard from several others on the field that you do not want to be up to bat with him on the mount.

Off field he is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet...

I love it! Played with the heads of all involved including the other team. Anything to get between someone elses ears.

By my posting this question, I was obviously saying that the announcer Thorne was full of BS....
