Spoon Sales as a Reflection of the Economy

Today I followed a coupla Gun Auctions..one is the multiday Rock Island Auction in Moline...multitude of desirable collecter guns. and the other a minor wayside Auction in Missouri.

At Rock Island Smith & Wesson revolvers are goin strong while they can hardly give away Assualt Weapons...WW2 Military..US, German and even Jap is super hot. U better allready have it in your collection or U ain't gona be able to afford it tommorow.

Anyway an SR25 went at the RIA...AR10 variant Match Rifle currently used by the Navy Seals etc as their Sniper rifle sold for $3160.00 at Rock Island today...plus shipping, handling, receiving or sales taxes. Gun was without Sights but had 5 magazines. Basically NIB. I was the underbidder on that gun.

The outa the way auction all the modern handguns were pulling nearly retail prices. So prices were Very Strong...

I keep watching the gun market at auction to see how strong it is, I use it as a relative gauge of the economy.

Also was checking out the prices at a Collector Car Auction, lots of muscle cars were selling in the $25,000 to $35,000 range. It seems like ALOT of cars were not making reserves, especially 69-70 Mustangs as they were being passed on. It seems like there were more passes than sales.

I'm disappointed. I was hoping to get an update on the spoon market.

Luxury sales are going strong, see the stock prices of BID (Sothebys) and TIF (Tiffany), or, further downmarket, RL (Ralph Lauren).

Dunno about muscle cars, but that might be just a fad that is easing, or increased supply entering the market (old guys w/ Hemis in their garage deciding to cash in). I think collectible Ferraris would be a better indicator, more of a stable supply.

She came in through the bathroom window
Protected by a silver spoon
Now she sucks her thumb in wonder
By her own lagoon.

Watching how people spend discretionary income can be an excellent way to gauge the health of the economy, but you normally want to look at overall discretionary spending -- not just those market segments you have a personal interest in!

Spoons, guns, high quality camera's, watches and so on have always held their value when needed. Its a good time to be sitting on some of the above when or if needed...
