I'd suggest a full sized long wheelbase pickup for boat towing...if rollovers concern you, there should be aftermarket bed mount roll bars available.

Look in the yellow pages for an off road specialty shop...they make roll bars for practically any 4X4...

They did make a diesel Scout. They also made them in longer wheelbases.

The Scout was also available as a 4 cylinder. It is half the V8 - literally. That will be fuel efficient but a bit anemic to pull 4000 pounds. A friend has the Traveler, a 78 model, IIRC. Nice truck.
If you go with an International, buy a restored example. Much more cost effective than doing it yourself. The Bronco is cheaper to fix up but of course the same applies there ... George |
