I started with a simple stool sample. If you have a family history do it as early as possible. If I would have waited until I was 40 my Doctor said I would have been too far along to make it.
I HAD a cousin that waited too long and ignored the blood in his crap and died. Colon cancer is easily detected and preventable. Read up on it. |
I had one two years ago, and I had two polyps of the type the Doc said "could turn into cancer". Had another one this year and I'm good to go with another one if five years.

I can turn this thread into a political one in no time :D

No worries Joe. Sarkozy has an excellent shot at being the new president of France and he's a good guy. We'll know Sunday.

Most of you are lucky. My recent colonoscopy showed moderately severe diverticulosis, and the sedative didn't do a thing while they were in there - and that wasn't very long because the doctor could only go so far with the probe. Because of that, I had to be scheduled for a barium enema. That thing was a lot worse.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the procedure, Kurt! ;)
Now that reminds me of a slightly embarrassing episode in Med School. My class was given instructions how to use the recto-scope, voluntarily practicing on each other (imagine that!). We were, naturally, feeling awkward and a bit embarrassed. So, there we are, a group of 6-8 students watching one of us on all four with his 'partner' having desperate attempts to correctly insert the recto-scope. Both very nervous. The guy fiddling with the scope, afraid he is hurting his partner, goes: - How does it feel ? OK ? The bent-over guy (without thinking) answers: - No problem, feels just fine! |
