With all this morbid talk, what would be your dream occupation?

Enough with death polls already.

If you could start all over, what would be your occupation of choice ? Are you doing it already ?

Since I was a kid I wanted to be and do what Jacques-Yves Cousteau did although I had astronaut as reserve should it not pan out. Well, of course it didnīt..

Ended up a simple kids doc. With age and diminishing romantic views coupled with slightly more sensible priorities I have however slowly come to the conclusion that I have truly found my calling being around the small brats all day.

How about you ?

everyday is like waking up in heaven all over again
then i go to work, and it just get's better still

dream job, Castle Lord, with 4 legged horses in the stable, and 4 wheeled horses in the garage, shootin varmin whenever i see fit, and roasting animals over my huge 6 foot fireplace, then occasionally head to neighboring towns and villages for some looting and pillaging, occasionally hauling some farm girls away from the farm

Speaking of morbid talk... you guys are freaking me out a little.

About a month ago a friend of over twenty years died at 46 of liver failure. Now last Friday a good friend and co-worker of around eight years died at 41 in a car accident.

We are having grief counseling here at work.

When I found out about my co-worker Saturday I went straight home. Fortunately PBS had two specials on, one about the Mars rovers and another about the New Horizons probe that will be photographing Pluto on it was out of our solar system. I remembered when I went back to school at age 30 to change careers my electronics class visited the facility here in S. Cal. where they build satellites and thinking that's what I want to do.

In my younger days I wanted to be a race car driver, an artist, or a musician... in retrospect working in aerospace, driving a race car, being a musician or artist are all pretty insecure jobs.

I would do exactly what I'm doing (mechanical engineer working in the aerospace/defense industry), but maybe remove some of the stress. I wish NASA and the rest of the country would move back towards an emphasis on manned space flight. I loved working on Shuttle payloads, etc. Very exciting and fulfilling.

In being practical, I would go the government employ route. No risk, awesome benefits, awesome retirement, early retirement, low/no stress, crazy time off, OK pay. All in all a great package.

Anything with Porsche Motorsports...North America or Weissach. I think I'd be happy sweeping floors and cleaning toilets if that's what it took to get my foot in the door! Oh well, at 37, I'm too old...maybe in my next life - I guess that's another OT thread I need to visit.

Maybe there's hope for my son, if he shows the same interest in working on cars.

I want Punxatawny Phil's job.
You only have to work one day a year and then all you have to do is get out of bed.
Ideal!

Very happy right where I am, thank you.

Have been a teacher and sales rep in the past and loved both of them but switched careers when I was 28 years old and made the right choice. Just wish I had done it 5-10 years earlier.

Good point. I'll simply *work* for NASA instead of being a contractor!!!

I was thinking something more like "Regional director overseeing ethnic diversity of county works projects" or some other highly useful position paying high five figures.
