Firefox users--help!

OK guys,

I normally don't have any FF issues/problems come up, but last night something happened that I can't figure out.

FF prompted me to update, which I did, as usual. Then, when I go to run it, it'll say, installing updates, then it'll give me an error message that says that part of the updates failed to install, and I should close any other open programs and try to fix the problem, then restart FF.

Here are the extensions I currently have on FF that were recently updated:
Colorful tabs
ImageShack toolbar (which I never use)

other extensions include:
Footiefox (soccer scores)
StumbleUpon toolbar (just d/led that last nite, haven't tried it out as thought it was causing the prob alem).

I thought if I restarted the comp it would fix the FF issue, but apparently not. Also, frequently my FF will say it can't load a page, something simple like Pelican Parts or myspace or ebay...stupid stuff that shouldn't cause complications.

I also have FF set to remember the pages that were open each time it starts (I only have 1 open page tho)

**EDIT** ok here's what happens exactly when I open FF: it says Software update: The updates are being installed and FF will start in a few moments...

Then: nothing happens.

Then:

Software update failed:
One or more files could not be updated. Please make sure all other applications are closed and that you have permission to modify files, and then restart Firefox to try again.

try this. It's amazing what a little google search can turn up.

I used to run stumbleupon. It caused too many problems/crashes, so I removed it.

Well apparently I have the old version of FF 2.0.0.1, not the latest build, 2.0.0.3. Great. Something's obviously not working to get it updated right. I guess I should try a clean update or something, see if that helps.

Thanks guys1

I got two updates yesterday on my laptop - 2.0.0.2 and 2.0.0.3 within minutes of each other. This is despite having auto update set. Weird. It all worked fine though.

Update:

well I decided to download the most recent build of FF from mozilla's site, only it gave me an error message halfway thru the download process, so I had to cancel after the retry didn't do anything.

So then when I open FF, I get the FF welcome screen that says, your FF has been updated, etc. No more annoying software update downloads and error messages! Only bad thing is, I was updating to 2.0.0.3 and it says I still have v 2.0.0.1. Oh well, I guess I should just shut up and be glad it's not being a butt anymore...

Thats sort of what I did. Well, I d/led a clean copy of FF via IE, but its not the latest version like it said it was on the website. Weird. I mustve messed something else up...

Also, if I uninstall it, then reinstall it, will it still have my bookmarks n that or will they be lost? I lost my bookmarks awhile back so I'm a little paranoid now...

Lastly, should I reboot my laptop after uninstalling FF and before I reinstall it?

Goto -> Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks. Then, File -> Export... And save to a directory of your choice. Uninstall FF, reboot, reinstall, if bookmarks are not there, follow same procedure, but choose import.
