Bourgeat Cookware on the Cheap
This is for U P Heads that can cook.Thursday night I stumbled onto a little auction of some Estate Cookware and I was able to buy 2 10 inch Bourgeat Copper pans wt Lids, an 8 in Bourgeat Pan wtout Lid and an FMA .20 hp Meat slicer all for $230.00 plus shipping.
Each of the Bourgeat Pans sells for at least $160 apiece discounted and the FMA Meat slicer lists for $617 discounted to $493. So for 23 cents on the $$$...Geezus what a bargain. Now exactly what I'm gona do with a Meat Slicer I don't know????

I just bought a complete set of All Clad knock offs from Samsclub online after I read how they got rated better then the originals. Expensive cookware I just don't get. I guess your food is going to taste much better.

I paid $120 for 3 Bourgeat pans...that comes to $40 a pan. Unless U Boyz buy Wally World Cheapo stuff, any decent pan at a Department store is going to have a comparable cost.
I bought quiet a few pieces of ALL-Clad Stainless and 3 pieces of All-Clad Copper. But that was before the stuff was available at Sammys Club. If the stuff was available at Sammmys Club I woulda bought it there instead of paying the price for the ALL-Clad. However there are a coupla pieces that I woulda bought from All-Clad as they are not available wt the Sammys Set. As to how much better you can cook by using premium cookware. If your a 7.5 Cook you will be an 8.0 Cook (1-10, 10 being best). It makes U just a little better. You have better control over heat, more uniform heat, and that does make a difference. I can tell U that with that David Klose Smoker I bought, it is much easier to make premium BBQ with it then it is with a cheaper unit, simply because it is easier to maintain a temperature level, So quality equipment does make a difference Maybe the point I'm trying to make here is why pay retail for something when if U look, you can buy it much cheaper at an auction. As for the Meat Slicer, let me get it, play with it and then I'll let you know if I want to sell it. I bought it because I have pretensions of buying chunks of Meat and making deli style sandwichs.. and for $109 plus shipping it was cheap enough to indulge that fantasy.

Tabs,
I use a slicer just like that but made out of plastic to slice bread and love it. They are well worth having and if you do not like yours pls let me know. Totally agree with the above. I refuse to pay full boat price when there are places like CL and so on. Nothing wrong with "gently used" in most cases. Joe

I still have some of Grandmas OLD Revere Ware from the 40s..when it was still made GOOD! Plus the All-Clad...
Lately I have bought a few Cast Iron pieces, a coupla Griddles, a 12 fry pan, a 10 inch and 8 inch. I like the Cast Iron for heat retention. The dam 12 Griswald cost about $150.00 on the Bay. But what astounds me is that a #13 Griswald Fry pan goes for around $1100.00 every time one comes up, the highest price paid for a piece of Griswald, was a rare Double Sided Corn Bread Pan that went for.....$21,000.00 at auction....can U BELIEVE THAT!!!!! FOR A FKIN PIECE OF CAST IRON. I used it to make some Meata Balls...which turned out excellantay

Tabdula, you are a man of taste and style. I just bought a similar Mauviel sauteuse evasee here in NYC and paid well more than the commodity price of copper if you know what I mean.
With power comes responsibility: it's thin copper with a tin lining, reacts VERY quickly to changes in the heat. If you turn the gas on HIGH you will blow the bottom out, you betcha. That being said, high heat is seldom required. Here's the difference: you have a sauce going and it's getting too hot and it's about to break. You instantly dial it down and it's saved. With lesser cookware or heaven forbid some kind of resistance heating instead of gas, you got a broken sauce that will freaking BOIL before it turns around. How about those cast-iron handles, too. Nice and cool to the touch. WARNING TO PPOT: Do not put your tongue on the handle. Bon appetit Tabdula!

If I hit the lotto I would upgrade to copper and enamel cast iron but until then this stuff works fine for me. Make you a better cook? Maybe not but as tabby says it all about temp control, if you know what you are doing it will make being a good cook a lot easier. I looked at a set of le creuset and they were made in China also.

Easy......you use the slicer to cut thin slices of meat to slide under the door of your friends neighbors apartment to feed his cat. The cat was on an automatic feeder since the neighbor is on vacation and you shorted his electricity with your dufus-hipster friend while trying to shut off the alarm clock he left on and now the cat is gonna die unless you feed it meat thin enough to slide under the door.

aw you guys can cream your jeans over copper this and aluminum that, personally I'll whip the Le Creuset out of the cupboard everytime.
I hear Cramer on the responsiveness of copper, but I'll take the even distribution, holding power and clean-up of the Le Creusets. Of course, the comparison is a bit of apples vs. oranges wheras porcelain coated cast and soft metals each have their roles to play, but... Le Creuset just feels right. Latest acquisition for me is the panini set. Heat the top and bottom parts separately, directly over mid-high gas, sandwich a well dried halibut, ahi or even sockeye slab between them - heaven... |

My experience with highend cook ware went as far as going to a Sonoma Williams Culinary store and getting my brother a $100 gift certificate to go with his AllClad collection. I went over to check out the prices and found out the a roasting pan (about the size to fit a turkey) cost $450!!! I think my certificate bought him a spatula

I bought ALL of my All-Clad on SALE. I bought their Copper Clad 12 Ot. ? Stock Pot for $150.00 along with several other Copper-Clad Sauce Pans for a total of $300.00 on close out. The Big Stock Pot was like $300 all by itself Retail.
I didn't buy the Bourgeat or the Meat Slicer because I needed it, I bought it because I wanted to try it out and see what it is like. It was also CHEAP enough for me to do so. Otherwise......
