Tick on the cat's butt
Any suggestions for removal that won't cause emotional distress (to me)? Was thinking some type of common household chemical application such carburetor cleaner. Wife has not yet noticed so is not time crucial at present. Cat spends 95% of his time outside so I am prepared to let nature take it's course if no suitable alternatives are presented.
This thread would be even more worthless with pictures. Jim

Just suck it up, grasp the tick and pull it out with a little twist. It'll bother the cat more than you. After pulling many out of my dog, it no longer grosses me out.

Slather some vaseline or cooking oil on it. It will smother the tick. May take a while.

I appreciate the aid with the situation. ck, if it was on the dog I can handle it, will yank hundreds/year off her, even with Frontline. Not so much a cat person but I will pet one occasionally. Would give it a pull if situated differently.
sm, I've made it more than 50 years without greasing an animal's butt, it just doesn't seem like the thing to do. Jim

Doesn't isopropyl alcohol make the ticks give up? Better, wait for the cat to fart and have a match ready.

I have 4 cats and I can just imagine the pain any one of them would inflict on me if I was to yank on thier butt. The cat should "clean" it off by itelf.

This posting makes me think of a story....
I used to work with a woman named Shirley. She was/is quite a character. She was single & lived with her black cockapoo dog. She told me she found a tick on the dog's stomach. She got tweezers & started pulling but it would not come off. She kept pulling harder & harder, but it still would not come off. The dog was going absolutely nuts as she tried to get the tick off. She ended up taking the dog to the vet. The vet said: "That's not a tick. It's a nipple!". As you can imagine she felt HORRIBLE for what she did to her beloved dog & to cause it so much pain. I feel bad for the dog too, but it is still very funny.

I don't know about getting it off the cat's butt, but while traveling around Africa we used to get a few ticks abd you never yanked them off as their little biter would stay in and lead to quite a bad sickess. We burnt them with a cigarette and they let go, then we got them off. You might be taking your life in your hands getting a cigarette near your cats arse though. Maybe try a fine tipped soldering iron, gulp.

A friend of mine has a 4-year-old son. Her son was always complaining of chapped lips and asking to borrow her chapstick. Eventually, she showed her son where she kept it in the bathroom. She instructed him that he was only to use it in the bathroom and to put it back when done. She continued to use the chapstick in the bathroom.
One day, she walks into the bathroom and sees her son putting chapstick on the cat's butt. The kid explains (as a four-year-old would) that the kitty's butt is chapped and needs medicine. She wonders if this is the first time her son has done this...

Go to the local PetMart (or whatever it's called in your area). Ask for a tick remover. It's a little metal scoop/wedge type thing with a cutout for the tick. $1.95. Just line it up and it pulls it right out. No pain for you, no pain for pussy.

I think you have a lazy cat. Growing up with outdoor cats they would get ticks but only miss on places that they couldn't reach with their teeth.
I would love to see the video of you burning a tick off your cats butt! Just thinking about it makes me laugh...I know, I'm sick.

Calling our cat lazy, I don't think I've ever been so insulted.
I'm leaning heavily to Rick's suggestion. Jim

The heat from a matchhead - freshly extinguished - will make the tick let go. No soldering guns - no cigarettes - please!

From my brother the vet:
If its visible its probably a soft tick so just pull the thing off. If you don't want to do that buy some flea and tick spray and spay it on. Tick should be dead within 12-24 hours and will fall off. And just why were you scrutinizing your cat's azz?
