				Anti Smoking Zelotry

I do not smoke, haven't for over 35 years. I just saw the reports that the UK is considering banning smoking while driving. This is nothing more than Zelots out of control. I think we should ban scratching your crack while driving as well. What a bunch of busy bodies. I think I should take smoking back up just so I can tell them to take a flying leap. Lets see, I am 58, expect to live to be 85 at most. So if i take up smoking again at say 65, and it takes 20 plus years to suffer the side effects, if ever, from smoking, I can blow smoke in the face of zelots for 20 years. Make life miserable for others, for no good reason, I can do the same, and they think they will die form a puff of smoke in the face, cool. Last edited by snowman; 05-14-2007 at 10:16 PM.. | ||

I suppose they argue that driving with the cell in one hand and a fag in the other presents a certain traffic hazard..

Dude, if I drove with a fag in the hand.... nevermind. Too disturbing to complete the thought.

I hear what you are saying Snowman. I don't smoke, but I am thoroughly p!ssed off at how more and more laws are being made to take away various freedoms.

Just outlaw the damn things. You can buy them but you can't smoke them anywhere.

The state of Illinois is trying to ban smoking just about everywhere--including while driving. I'm so glad that Obama, Daley, and Blago want to take care of me. I don't ever have to be distracted from American Idol again.

WoW, you know how much tax dollars they lose when they ban smoking. Just the taxes on Cigs and cigars. Pretty soon we'll have to ban that cheap perfume people are wearing too much of, it's hurting something in my nose and lungs for sure.

Or reading the newspaper, or putting on make up or... The cigarette banning is amusing to me. Total violation of civil liberties. Don't even start with, "What about my right to smoke free air?" Here in California, the slide started with banning smoking in bars. If it is all that awful, make it illegal and give up the tax revenue.

Well, I'm not a smoker, never have been, yet the smoking NAZIs tick me off. I have had heated arguments with friend on the smoking ban in restaurants, I feel it should be up to the business owner, not the government. How would those in favor of banning smoking replace the jobs lost, the tax income the states & fed enjoy so much??? If they ban smoking, what is next??? BTW, I do have one major pet peeve on smokers, those that toss their butts every where, out of their cars, into rivers, where ever the want I have no problem with you smoking, but don't leave your butts & ashes for the rest of us to see.

How about just ban smoking while driving with the windows open? Keep the smoke inside with you and don't flick your burning butts out the window. If smokers would do that, the rest of the drivers wouldn't care.

Don't worry about the lost revenue here in Illinois, they will make it up somewhere else. I feel my pockets getting lighter every day.

Well in california I love the ban on smoking in restraunts/bars/workplace etc. It's great to go to a steak house and smell the aroma of the food vs. the cig smoke. That stuff just stinks, and no you can't cover it up. Nothing worse than a smoker with too much perfume/cologne. Went out to a martini bar with the wife the other night. Very nice not comming out smelling like an ash tray. I used to go home and take a shower because of that god awful stench. If they're gonna ban cell phones, seems only logical to ban cig smoking. Seems like it would be very distracting finding/lighting on of those things.

Perfect example of how constant haranguing about a specific action makes it socially unacceptable. Health risks aside (alcohol is a toxin, remember...."Intoxicated"), free will is suffering defeat after defeat and the public seems to be OK with this trend. Right or wrong, things will continue as they are, with more and more restrictions.

I hate the government taking away our civil liberties... But I also hate trying to enjoy a good meal with the stench of cigarettes in the room. Maybe if the cigarette addicts showed a little common sense and didn't expect the rest of the word to share there dirty little habit it wouldn't have come to this. BTW I have NEVER told any of my friends that smoke that they can't do it in my house but they all show the respect to take it out on the porch. AND I smoke cigars... outside... or when I'm alone inside with the windows open.
