I have a Factory 914/6 and I do not want to molest it. I've dreamed a bit about a conversion, where i can let my imagination run a bit. A 3.2l engine. Maybe even a 928 V8 conversion! Very big, non-factory flares, large brakes with a 23mm master clyinder. Big old boxster wheels. Some extremely significant frame stiffening...

Keep it looking like a 914, but very fast and mean!

Hey, I'm 20 miles from Rhode Is. right now and will be around all weekend. Where's his 911T WE'RE bidding on???????

Hells no Bobby
I am sure that there are already numerous sharks in the water on this one. Cmon, you've already got 2 longhoods...I've never had one!

All I've ever had is a lousy 83 944 and an even worse 74 911. And my ownership of those 2 cars was less than 2 years combined due to circumstances.

My goal was to have a 'good' one before age 30 and I've got 1 year to make that happen. As in exactly one year from today.

So don't ruin my birthday ;)

Just an FYI, there is an outrageous 914/6 with a 3.2 for sale here on PParts. (I have no relation to the seller, although I think I live pretty close to him.)

Bleyseng 05-18-2007 07:50 AM

Go with the least rusty car and it sounds like the garaged 914 2.0L would be it. If its clean its worth double the $5k.

Tobra 05-18-2007 02:35 PM

Surprised the 914-6 is not doing stronger.

Tell me more about the black 914-4

911 for me...

deathpunk dan 05-18-2007 05:30 PM

HOT UPDATE

914/6 has a '2.3 high compression motor' with 1500 miles on it...backfiring and popping on decel...the engine builder?

The infamous MM.

Seller says 'could be a valve, could be the carbs' Even he is aware the MM has, shall we say, a star crossed rep.

Sigh. He wants 6k for the car. He claims motor makes 180 hp. I kinda feel bad for the guy. It does look sharp. He says MM engine cost north of $9000.

I suppose I could always find another mild 2.2 or 2.4T motor for the car...

Aaargh!

Went to bid on the 71 911t targa yesterday...it's at an estate sale, in the garage...from the driveway, my pulse quickens a bit at the sight of the guards red longhood...BUT, it was mostly downhill from there.

The good:
-later fuchs with falken azenis look great
-really really nice mid 70s/early turbo style sport seats that have clearly been restuffed and reupholstered
-all new carpet
-all new floor pans
-2 targa tops
-no corrosion whatsoever around suspension mounting points
-only a couple of surface blisters in paint
-some maint records iincluding clutch and tranny rebuild in the last few yrs

the very bad:
-horrific repaint that does not quite match engine compartment paint, lots of overspray
-chrome and other trim painted black (half assedly)
-engine leaks like a sieve. needs a re-seal badly and who knows what else
-one very soft spot in the middle of the front pan. why nowhere else?
-dash pad was glue to the dash
-bidding was already at 9k

So...let's say 10k gets this car. It will need reseal, full tune up to be drivable.

Then, the paint and all trim needs to redone.

I can't justify the 20k total needed to buy and bring it up to snuff when nicer cars go for considerably less than that all the time.

I've logged close to 100,000 miles in 914s, i've owned 3 of them over the years.
I say get the 911 unless you really like squeaky, rattly, shoddy construction.
The 914 body, chassis, doors, etc all lack the 911 solid feel.

$9000 for a piece of junk 71 911TTTTTT Targa....phew thats nutz. Maybe an S should go for that but a TTTT?????

deathpunk dan 05-20-2007 12:48 PM

It gets worse/better!

Turns out a murder-suicide took place in the house of the 911t. The husband, a golf course owner, killed his wife and then himself. He strangled his wife with an industrial plastic zip tie then choked himself with another one. The 911T was his.

My gf insisted the house was spooky and she was glad to get the hell out of there yesterday...and now today we find this out!!

So, ixnay on the 'Christine' car.

Hmmm...I've used zip-ties for everything, but never thought of that. Thanks!

I voted for the targa before I ever read the description. Personally, I hate the way the 914s look, always have, and probably always will. Also, targas have always been my favorite body style of 911s, with the no-sunroof coupe coming in at a close second.

I'd kill to have a 71 Targa, whether it's a 'T' or not! (would prefer E)

I've got a few zip ties if you want them.

kach22i 05-21-2007 12:13 PM

I have a few of those giant HVAC ductwork contractor grade zips too. I never thought they could be deadly.

72doug2,2S 05-21-2007 12:24 PM

This is exactly why zipties need to be outlawed. There is no useful purpose for them other than binding and bondage and now killing.
