Would you rather have a 914/6 conversion or a 71 911T targa? I am going to try to spend some money this weekend, barring anything unforeseen or unfortunate. The contenders: a 1973 914/6 conversion with a punched out 2.2T motor. fiberglass GT flares. 5 lug running boxster wheels with spacers. needs tlc. seller has lots of $ tied up in this one. a 1971 911T targa with 75k on it. Estate sale. best cash offer takes it home, must sell this weekend. I am hoping that the time contraints eliminate a lot of interest and might give me a chance to snag it for less than what I'm seeing these cars sell for here and on eb@y. Distant 3rd place: 1973 914 2.0. black. garaged. widow selling it. Knows little about it. Asking 5k. There is also an 81 SC targa for $6500/bo locally...I'm a-skeered of head stud issues as the current seller will not allow a ppi.... Vote with your head. Or heart. |

I voted for the 914-6 project, but that's just me. |

Before reading the descriptions, I thought the 914/6. But I don't like the GT flares on 914s, and would prefer something bigger than a 2.2. With the cars listed above, probably the 911T. |

i voted for the 914/6 as well, cuz I have one and want it finished. |

The one with the least rust! |

No offense to anyone but I don't like Targa's. I voted for the 914/6. I am of the gerneation when 914's were new. Back in the day I was hot for a flared 914. Today I'd rather have a non-flared body, especially if fiberglass flared. Nevertheless, I'd still take a well running flared 2.2 over the Targa. The big wheels you probably have under those flares aren't going to be all that compatbile with the small 2.2...but I'd cope. Best of luck with whatever you choose. Post pix! |

I say the 914 2.0. drop a six in it later. the GT flares in my own opinion have been done too much. Like the narrow look with a BIG motor. |

Geezus is there any doubt...the 71 911T..especially if it is straight with little or no rust. The 914 with phares..it a cooked car allready, the 914 in the garage is OK if it is straight...but a REAL Long Hood 911...boy go for it. |

The only way for me that this would be a hard choice is if the 911 were really a 912. Heck I would still take the 912, and a no brainer if it were a soft zipper out window targa. |
|
There was no such thing as a 71 912...last year was 69 and resurrected for one year in 76. TARGA TARGA TARGA TARGA TARGA..... |
|
I voted 914/6 only because the 911 was a targa. Had it been a coupe I would have voted for the 911. |
|
tabs I hear you...I have to be the last man standing at 4 pm sunday with the highest offer to get the targa...we will know very quickly upon seeing it if it is 'worth it.' I am not going to over-bid for it. I have a $ figure in my head that I will not bid over. Honestly, the second choice might in fact be the 73 914 2.0 and do my own /6 swap this winter...that way I could retain the orginial non flared look, and do everything 'my way'. |

The fiberglass flares on the 914 are a deal killer. If they were factory steel flares, properly done, I'd take that car. Hard to pass up any longhood in favor of a glass-flared, Boxster-wheeled converted 914-6 needing TLC. |

I voted for the 914/6 - if the 911 were a coupe, that would have won my vote. |
|
doesn't pic of the T look more like a coupe? not sure. I've inquired about it too. that SC Targa...I saw it 2 months ago or so. It had sat for quite a while, sold for $4700. Looks like someone cleaned it up just enough for a quick flip. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1179436731.jpg |

Methinks it depends on what you want to do with the car. As I have a '71 I'm rather partial to them, though much prefer a coupe to a targa. If the car is for Autocross, the 914-6 or maybe the 914 2.0; if for touring, the 911. The pic is a coupe. T/E/S were designations for engine mostly, not body style. |

 I have a 911 and a 914 project I'm turning into a 6 with metal GT flares and I voted for the 914/6. |
