Are Goatees becoming Passe?
I've had mine for around 10 years. Shaved it off a couple of times, but grew it back within a couple of months. Once again I am getting tired of taking care of it and want to shave it off. I am also thinking goatees are becoming yesterday's fashion trend. My wife says keep it, but I am thinking shave it off. What says the collective? Oh and obligatory goatee pic of me:

Kurt,
The look on your daughters face tells me you could grow a third eye and it would be in fashion. Grow what you want...unless the young lady objects

Yes, same story here. About wearing a goat for about a decade. The grey was coming in and my belly going out so I shaved the goat. When I looked in the mirror I looked alot less old. I did not look young, just less old.

It is not a goatee. That is a Van Dyke.
My son kept bugging me to shave mine. He said I looked old with it. Last edited by nostatic; 05-16-2007 at 01:50 PM.. |

That is just such a wonderful photo with your little girl! I'd suggest you keep the beard but like Seahawk said though....she has the last word!

Lose it. I just shaved off my stash a week and a half ago after having it for 20+ years. The wife says I look younger now without it. I'm still not used to the weird feeling without it.

"Are goatee's becoming Passe?" Uh........yeah......a couple of years ago!
Soon they'll be about as out of date as my 70's porno actor mustache was when I shaved it off in the mid 90's. I kept that damned thing way too long, don't follow my lead.

I shaved my stash after having it for the better part of 25 years. Was tired of the trimming as well.

Shave half of it off first - so you can see the before and after effect in a mirror.

What I've seen some guys sport lately is just the bottom half. They shave off the mustasche part and leave hair parallel to their bottom lip on down. Looks weird to me but some like it.

I think the big thick ones are out - I keep mine trimmed down to a 3 (real short). I shaved mine a few weeks ago and I caught such a rash of shizit from the wife - I grew it back.

No goatee, but bearded (although trimmed regularly) since '85. Wife has not seen me without. Should I shave when she's asleep some night and then crawl back in bed?

Thanks for the responses! And yes as you can tell, my daughter is the apple of my eye.
As for the goatee, I think it is going. After all it will always grow back!

I shaved mine off last month. My face looked so fat and bad, I grew it right back. Try it, it will only grow back.

Here in CA, the goatee (or Van Dyke deferring to NS) has been passe' for years (at least 5), but yours looks good on you. I have the same mustache that I've had all my adult life. I don't cater much to fads.

if you shave it, warn the daughter. I was 5 when Dad shaved his beard for the first time (for me anyway) and I freaked out...

Kurt,
You are such a wuss..... posting a photo like that here. This is a PORSCHE forum, not a river forum (even if it is well over the banks and about to eat you out of house and home!) so you now need to find one with you in the car! Course I can only say that because I happen to have one of me in an old bathtub when I had hair all over my chinny chin chin! ![]() Joe

And on your heady-head-head!
Of course, when I get to the point where the white out-numbers the red, I'll shave. Probably everything...

James,
Tried to grow one recently and it was so frigging grey that I shaved it off. Comes with being an old bastard I guess...
