Who would, even at your network, have invited on such a little toad to tell us that the attacks of September the 11th were the result of our sinfulness and were God's punishment if they hadn't got some kind of clerical qualification?

Hitchens is a neo con. Neo cons have more in common with socialists than with 'right wingers.'

That's why it's hilarious and/or confounding to the political left to see 'right wingers' supporting this administration.

Hitchens is also anti-religious, which makes him a very rare sort of neo con. But Hitchens is also a sensationalist publicity seeker like several darlings of the 'right.' So the right wingers are always whipsawed by his pronouncements.

It does confound people on both extremes that he refuses to take a single ideological side. That's one reason why he's so much fun on talk shows.

Hitchens isn't that confounding. His main battle is with religion/God - his new book supports that. After all, who else would publicly call Mother Teresa "a wallowing media whore?"

I think that's a fair statement. Hitchens describes himself as 'in alignment' with neo-cons on foreign policy issues. But most of us think of neo-cons primarily in relation to foreign policy -- stemming from PNAC.
