that's what i'm talking about

but i doubt one would have been designed specifically with 914 parts in
mind

if i wanted to build something for function
i mean something i don't care how it looks
but i want something focussed on track driving
steering rack, least of my worries, plenty of choice, i'de prefer something newer and more mass produced > spares&cheaper

tranny, well, 914 is great, but it's old
newer reverse mounted tranny's exist
and when you talk about availability , there's more 944's or boxsters
and they'll take more torque then any 914 tranny
and i'm sure there are other cars that had suitable tranny's , newer and more numbers

if i wanted auto-x , i'de go for a FWD engine/tranny package , and mount that in the back
just like the atom , cos it's way compact and there are a gazillion possible donors, fords, peugeouts, VW's , renaults, honda's and so forth

rally setup , same difference(think stratos)
although for rally's with kitcars = no go, won't be alllowed passed any tehnical inspection if it's not based on a real car

either way , if one thinks function over form
there is way more room to think effectively

form over function = compromise all over

availability ... 914 was not at all mass produced
nor are those components built for super performance

This is another interesting concept, though not with any porsche replica body, still nice. Its called the La Bala. It uses an MR2 drivetrain. But as well all know, MR2 drivetrains are an awful lot like FWD drivetrains.

What they offer that is completely unique is a build-your-own-frame option. You pay a meager price $150!! and get paper cut-outs for the tube ends with directions on length etc. You lay the paper over the tube, trace it out and cut on the line. Put tube A in slot A - away you go.

To my knowledge, this is the only maker who does this. Makes a very affordable do-it-yourself frame.

SAND RAILS USE 914 BITS
with smaller wheels and a few mods that could be what you want
esp in a no body open look
