I'm Going to Be a Grandfather!

My son Thomas and his wife, Lisa just found out they will be having a baby in early January '08. Here is a picture of them at their wedding in April two years ago:

When the baby is born Thomas will be 26 - the age I was when I had him 26 years ago; I am 52. This is my first grandchild and frankly? I am over the top about it.

There are only two things I have ever done in my life that I think I truly did well and that is raising my two children, Thomas and Katie. Katie graduated from USC Gould School of Law last Sunday, Mother's Day she is 24.

Those of you that have been around here awhile know I am terribly proud of them both and an emotional slob when it comes to them. I apologize for crowing about them but that seems to be applying double for the grandchild and I haven't even seen him/her yet. Hoist one for me when you read this boys. I'm terribly happy about this.

Congratulations, Dan !

I´d guess I have at least 10 years to go before I´ll be a grandfather. But then I expect to have a few from my four children.

In my line of work I see a high degree of involvement from grandfathers/mothers. It seems it is the perfect position. Cuddle up with the baby in your lap, when you start to smell it - just leave to mother...

Most of all I think one feels a tremendous ego pride looking at a grandchild - that is ME, two more generations ahead. I will survive long after I am gone. I did good!

Thanks guys. I always knew I would like to have grandkids but I didn't expect to feel quite so giddy about it! Once I get to see and hold the little one I have a feeling I am going to be rendered a silly fool. Oh well, what are they for anyway but to spoil and fuss over?

Very cool, Dan...I can't imagine a better way to feel about your children.

That's what it's all about. No exceptions.

Congrats!
