Well I thought I was going to retire at 57 but...
Just found out I am going to be a daddy again!
My wife was told by her gynecologist that when our son was conceived, it was just luck. She's never had a regular period (maybe 2 or 3X/yr). So we stopped using contraceptives long ago with the hope that some day we will be blessed with another child. Never thought it'd be 11 years later. Our son is now 16 years old and we are about to have another child. I couldn't be happier even if it means I won't be able to retire when I had planned. Lennon was right; life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans. |

Well, congratulations are certainly in order!
But why canīt you still retire? They are not that expensive. I felt kind of old at 39...uh, I rest my case. How old is your wife (if I may ask)?

When my kids were 8 and 10 years old my wife told me she wanted another baby. She was 43 years old at the time so I was doubtful. We decided we would try for three months. She got pregnant the first month. Like you, my retirement plans vanished.
This was 6 years ago and I cannot imagine our lives without our littlest one. A blessing beyond measure. Congratulations!

Congrats! How old are you?
I though we were bad having our baby when our other son was 10 years old and I was 38 years old. The best part of your deal is you have a built in babysitter now. Heres to a healthy mommy and baby. Salute!

Old parents
My mom was 42 when she had me. My pop was 42. They said that i was a surprise. There were good points to being the last, 10 years younger than my sister. my parents were much better of financialy. They also were way more mature than most young people having kids. They knew more about raising kids at that age. The down side in one respect is that my dad died at age 57, when i was 15. This made my mom and I a lot closer though, which probably helped her out during her last days. Since we had to make it without my Dad, there was a deeper bond between us than with her and my siblings. I was there for her whenever she needed me as she got older. She just passed away last year at 91.I'm not sure if it was because of all we went through without a dad/husband or just because I'm really wired to do the right thing no matter what the cost. You'll do well and be forever happy with your new addition. Congratulations

First off congrats...
We had our last (I hope) 5 1/2 years ago when I was 43. I find the hardest things is keeping up with her, heck I was on a trampoline this weekend. I'm 48 now and it looks like my mid-life is gonna be full of activities. I hope I can keep up.

Congratulations to you and your wife! There is a huge upside to being in your late 50's and still having kids in the house-they keep you in a young frame of mind and still connected to the world of the young(meaning the happening world).

Congratulations!
Mine are 22, 10 and 5 - Many doctors told us the last two would never be here. Had a great number of problems and paid a fortune, and no, I'm not retiring anytime soon. But on Saturday, when i coached my little 5 year old in his final soccer game of the seacon, I felt younger and more alive than I have in years! The adult world of work and war just melts away when I'm with my family. They are truly a blessing. Can't tell you how glad I am to have them. Enjoy your new little one in 2008! |
