Is your P-car your wife or a girlfriend?

Do you guys (and gals) have one particular Porsche that you've had for a long time and you just couldn't bear to part with it?

Or do you keep a car for a few years, sell it when you get bored or when a different one (older, newer, faster, whatever) catches your eye?

The reason I'm asking:

I've got a lightly modified '84 911 that I love dearly, but I don't drive it very much (mainly to autocrosses).

I was thinking about a Boxster, which I would be more likely to drive around town, take on trips, etc., since it has proper heat, A/C, isn't as loud, and has a better ride, all of which would be more palatable to the wife.

But there is NO WAY I'd love any Boxster as much as I love my 911.

I bought her in '04.

My 951 is my mistress.

I've had my eye on a Boxster for a few years. I test drove one, and it made my 951 feel like a city bus.

My early '85 is my keeper. It was my first Porsche and what introduced me to the world of "real" automobiles (formerly I'd only owned American junk or Japanese junk). Yes, the 951 is faster, yes it's more "valuable", yes it's not a 911, yes it's "only" an early 944, etc. but it's the one that taught me what it was like to actually love a car and delight in caring for one.

I'd sell all my other vehicles before I ever sold that one. I delight in keeping her up and in tip-top running order. One of these days I'll be able to address the cosmetics (needs a repaint badly) but that's a high-$$$ proposition, so it's on hold. I figure I have my whole life to get it done and done correctly by someone that actually takes pride in their workmanship, not just a "spray mill" like one of the chain places. That's about all she needs.

I've got a 99 boxster in almost-new condition and a 72 911 in far from new condition I've got some sort of power or fuel problem with the 911, thought it was the carbs, rebuilt them, still problems, it's noisy at anything above 50 km/h, sport shocks make railroad tracks feels like potholes, I'd like a more powerful car and a cabrio. I get into the boxster, turn the key and feel comfortable. Great AC, awesome sound system, cabrio, good fuel mileage, awesome leather smell.

Guess which car is for sale?

Yep, the boxster. Despite all its problems, there's no way I'd sell the 911. It keeps occurring to me to sell both and buy a really mint 89 3.2 cabrio, but I know I'd end up regretting it. It'd be one of those "remember that car you should've never sold?" stories. Besides, for what the car's worth, I may as well hang on to it.

Well, yes, my 78 SC is one that I can't bear to part with(written in my will to get a repaint with my ashes), then the 2 914s & 924S , last, but if in a real bind, the first that woulkd be released, my 83SC cab.

All have special meaning to me (hey, I still have a BMX bike I had in the 70s) some more than others. I'll be happy once I get down to just these & my daily driver.

I have owned four different Porsche models over the years. I would not consider any of them wives or girl friends. I would consider them Jezebels; needy, expensive to maintain, jealous of your time and flighty.

To coin a phrase, one could consider us "Porsche Whipped"!!

I've owned my 911 for almost 14 years. It is a member of the family now. I think I will keep it forever.

I even brought home a present for it this past weekend - a new trailer!!!

"Wife" since 1974...but I got bored with her, so we're "divorcing".
I'm tired of the "Porsche experience", so no plans to look for another.

Oh, I'm sticking with the lady inside the car...

My 914-6 has been in the family since new, I bought it from my step dad and restored it.

Got the RS America 5 years ago.

I'm really attached to both of them.

I'm the original owner of the 80 FXWG Harley, 5 engines later. Built her for long distance. 600-700 miles a day is still comfortable.

Still want them all, they're all paid for. And it's nice to get up and go "Which one do I drive today?"

Now I need that 1 bedroom apartment with the attached 8 car garage.

It's a done deal Juan...the '72S coupe, original paint and all, is destined to have Istanbul as it's next home.

(Edit) Details here...the thread was closed when certain people who were angry over the sale started posting..

Adios, old friend...

Sell the 911..............never. I waited a very long time to get her, and the more I drive the car the more I want to drive the car. My wife understands, and loves to ride. She is a damn good driver but she is afraid of having something go wrong with the car so she doesn't/wont drive it.
I like it that way.
My 44 on the other hand..............make me an offer

My mom has referred to the 911SC as my boyfriend...not sure if that counts, but I do love that car more than any person I've ever loved, and it has helped me get over one person in particular...

What??? You're still pining away for Jack Olsen??? Trust me girl, you don't want a guy like Jack. I mean, you'd wake up some day to find old age creeping up on you.
