Mercedes SLR.....WOW is that an ugly car.

I try and reserve jugdment on a car until I see it in person. Pictures on the computer don't really tell you the whole story. I just did a walk around of an SLR in downtown Seattle.

Ummmmmm.....did someone fail to notice that the proportions of the car are absurd? The hood of the car is nearly as long as the entire back end from the A post back. I thought the car looked bizarre in pictures, but they are nothing compared to the real deal.

It is FUGLY!

Hell....'as long' my foot, the hood is longer than the back end! And WTF is up with that tiny cockpit?

I kind of like it, it reminds me of a big engine pulling a little car around. Sort of like an old Jag.

Saw this one being delivered a couple of weeks ago.

Haven't seen one in person yet, but they are ugly.

Regardless of the performance, it would be hard to own -- especially at that price -- a car that you find ugly.

I think they look really cool in person.

Are the proportions absurd? I suppose, when compared to the standard cars of mere mortals.

I've seen a few in person - I think it looks fine up close, but it looks better in motion...

The car is surpisingly low to the ground.

The MB dealer here in town has an SLR on the showroom floor. I like it in person. The view from the drivers seat was very pleasing to the senses and eyes. Unfortunately I don't have the $450,000.00 to buy one this week.

Look at the quick and dirty photo edit I did above. Doesn't it look way better with 8 inches lopped off the front?

Jim mentioned "old jag"...aesthetics only...forget all their other problems, the original E Jag gets my vote as the best looking rolling phallic symbol of all time. Ragtop, of course... The coupe version looked too much like this Mercedes.
