Spare $100 to spend on a toy -- what would you get?

I devour sites like engadget and thinkgeek and slashdot, prowling for cool toys and other crap I don't need.

I've been through PP, and there's nothing I've found that I want that I haven't already bought myself.

Nothing has stolen my attention this week, and I'm getting twitchy. I've got a 360, and I'm going to get Forza 2 (and steering wheel) soon... but that's going to be well north of $100.

I know in this redoubt of gearheads and gadget freaks I will find
inspiration.

So -- if you had a spare hundy lying around, what toy(s) would you get or have you gotten for yourself recently?

No, blow-up dolls and similar paraphernalia or devices are not interesting to me. (looking at LubeMaster)

And this is a self-indulgent expenditure, so there will be no $100 donation to charity. (looking at Supe, et al.)

Best,

JP

If U ain't spendin 5K on a toy it ain't gona be ****...might as well buy a towel to wipe youself off with for that kind of money.

Overpaid Slacker 05-31-2007 01:10 PM

Oh, I'm spending $5k on each of two toys (Mini and Alfa) this season. I just want some cool gadget/device/whatever that I haven't yet discovered.

I'd love to buy the guns you buy (but not so much the artwork) but it's not in the budget.

Frankly a severely cool $250 thing would be snapped up, but I had to start at $100, expecting my typical 250% overspend.

Hey I found an Auction in Wyoming of all places that had some GREAT Cookware...3 Bourgeat Copper Pans and a FMA Meat Slicer for $230.00. Total retail on the lot was a bit North of $1100.00.

71T Targa 05-31-2007 01:33 PM

It's 2x what you're looking to spend, but this little RC truck is a blast. Inside or out...

Childs toy.

Start lookin at some auctions, there is no tellin what U will find. Be warned once U start you never stop. U will soon realize payin retail is for fools.

71T Targa 05-31-2007 01:39 PM

It's not a toy, it's a hobby... ;)

M.D. Holloway 05-31-2007 01:42 PM

100$? Hmmm. You could get a few cases of some
1) serious engine oil?
2) How about 10 oil analysis kits?
3) a parts washer?
4) A couple dozen aerosols of brake cleaner, solvents, penetrants and antisieze?
5) a couple OilSafe containers

Just bought one of those for my grandson. I ran out the next day and got one for myself!;)

Wish the battery life was a little longer though...

automatic airsoft pistol, shoots little plastic bb's about 70 feet, not hard enough to break skin at any range, but great for messing with people who are looking the other way ;)

plus its only 15 bucks..

jyl 05-31-2007 03:40 PM

I'd get a night vision device. You should be able to find a used gen 1 monocular on eBay for $100-200. Maybe another $10 for an IR filter for your flashlight. No practical purpose, but I'd like to have one.

Gogar 05-31-2007 03:45 PM

How about 28 gallons of gas?

Tim Hancock 05-31-2007 04:56 PM

Tacpoint (clone of the high dollar Aimpoint) red dot sight. The Japanese made ones are reported to be just as good as the real deal. Google Tacpoint for many reviews/info. With a quick search I found this one for $159.00, but I have seen them for less. http://www.shotplus.com/shop/product.php?productid=16157

Yugo SKS 7.62x39, Yugo 8mm Mauser, Mosin Nagant 7.62x54 each are workhorses and can be purchased for approx. $100. Go to Gunbroker.com and find any toys that you might want not only guns......

cashflyer 08-02-2007 05:59 AM

Keg of beer & cooler full of steak. Call friends. Enjoy.
It may not be a toy that you can keep around and play with, but it is still plenty of fun for the money.

Rick Lee 08-02-2007 06:05 AM

I'd use it as a down payment on a class III permit and then save up for a suppressor.
