I use an air mattress for my one time a year tent camping (Oshkosh Airshow), I really would not consider a cot, as it takes up too much space in the airplane. Air mattresses are plenty comfortable though. I used to just use a foam pad, but the hard ground there is lumpy due to it being just a long grass field for the majority of the year. The cheap blow up sunbathing rafts work ok if you need to keep weight down and they fold up real small. Not as nice as a lager air mattress, but they can be blown up easier without a pump.

I have a cot which I have used but hate it. The reason being is the underside of the cot is always cold and freezes my back making it uncomfortable to sleep. I have even tried 2 blankets folded up so they were 6 blankets thick and it was still uncomfortable.

It wasn't even that cold out.

Air mattress on a cot is the only way to go camping!

"LARRY!"

"what?"

"LARRY!"

"what?"

"LARRY!"

"WHAT!?!"

"YOU STOLE MY POT!"

"Shuddup you idiot"

"YOU STOLE MY POT!!!"

"LARRY!"

This was repeated all night long. These guys had 1 tarp, a MR. Coffee, coffee maker (plug in electric!), and virtually nothing else. The guy who always shouted "Larry" was released into the custody of next of kin (I guess Larry) from some sort of group mental home.

At somepoint in the weekend, he was being such a jerk, that the Camp Ranger arranged a one way taxi ride to the other end of the Lake, 30-40 miles away...This didn't help, as the others had to find him. He was arrested and sent to the local "hospital"/clinic.

I think that was the last time I went camping to a State Park. I love camping in the deep woods, or canoeing in the deep wood.
