F-Connectors and ribbon cables - COMPUTER

J1 not F1.....................

I had to pull a flat ribbon cable out of the mother board on a HP plotter. It was easy to do, got my fingernail under the top locking tab of the J1 clip and lifted it. The cable lifted out just fine, no damage.

Now I'm looking at it and can't remember which side the shinny face of the ribbon cable should face.

On the reinstall, the shinny side faced the main PCA as the instructions say, but it's not working right.

I'm starting to think the shinny metallic side may have to face the lift tab on the J1 connector.

Does anyone know about this stuff?

I can't see into the connector to see where it's metallic connectors are. No flash light, no mirror.

Any ideas? I don't want to try it backwards and really screw it up.

Look on the ribbon cable. Should have a red or black stripe on one side of the cable. This USUALLY corresponds with pin number 1. Might try this...

There is a metallic side and a blue (rubber-like) side.

The metallic side should away from the locking tab. I doubt you will screw anything up by putting it in backwards. Should be contacts on only one side of the ribbon.
