so long vw

Well, Carmax has the VW now. She's in a better place. Maybe not, but it sounded good. Feel a bit odd, as there was some life angst wrapped up in the car since I bought it due to the motorcycle crash. Seems like forever ago.

Decided the TT is just too small. For instance today had a situation where the ex needed me to give her and the boy to the shop. In the TT it would be a struggle.

So the question of the day is used A3 with black interior or new with gray interior. Seeing if the price differential makes it viable. I figure black doesn't show dirt as much but almost all my friends are arguing that gray is the better choice.

Did you check with the Ex? She may have some input on your car purchase

funny you should ask. I drove her to the Audi dealership to pick up her loaner car. She pointed to the S4 Avant and said, "you should get something you really like."

4.2L V8 w/340hp and quattro. Well, that doesn't suck...

Didn't you have an '06 4 door GTI? Did you have any problems with it? I must have missed the thread...

I drove a GLI with the DSG last year and thought it was a good alternative to the usual slushbox. I can understand wanting to have a real manual transmission though.

Most folks advised you to wait vs. buy the DSG VW. Buy a low mile used car with black interior. You'll end up selling it 16 months down the road anyway when you get that sexy Italian bike.

Mazdaspeed 3.

Otherwise, Alfa Romeo is returning to The States. Might want to check out one of those.

I drove the MS3. Not for me.

I'm sure an Alfa would be low maintenance

TT too small?!?! Please. You used to manage with a Ducati every day and I suspect a TT is a little bigger than that. In all seriousness though I did have some reservations about the SLK when I first got it (what if I have to carry more than a single person, etc.) Haven't regretted it yet. It's actually a bonus - if people at work want to go out for lunch or whatever, I don't get tagged as the driver since I can only take me and one other. It has its advantages. If I ever need to move large stuff, I'll rent a pickup.

You got a kid Jeff (that you know about )?

If it was just me, the TT would work fine. But the reality is I need a semi-functional rear seat. TT's seat is more for show. I have to admit the S4 Avant is pretty sick to drive. No replacement for displacement. And a nice tidy 13 mpg to boot in the city evidently.

Whatever else you decide, this is incorrect. Black shows almost everything. All the vehicles you've had and none in black yet

Silvers and grays.

Nope. Not that I know of anyway (and if there are any, it's better that I don't know).

How'd you manage with the youngin' and the Ducati though - that's my point. If you made it work with the bike, I imagine the TT would be a step up. I was in a similar boat going from commuting on my Katana about 75 miles a day at my old job to the car. Fortunately I didn't have my decision forced for me by an errant coyote or anything, but I got sick of being dependent on 20-year-old 944s with questionable reliability and that I constantly had to wrench on to keep running well and a motorcycle that (although I loved) was eventually going to end me up injured if I continued to use it every day.

Still riding regularly, but more for fun and more local. But mostly driving now. A child seat should fit okay in a TT. . .

The A3 is a great car - my friend's wife bought one about a year ago (and they have two hellspawn). Works great, she raves about what a great car it is and it seems nice.

Hey guys, I just sold my TT last week and picked up a nice well cared for 951. The bottom line reason? The TT is really too tight for hauling kids around in the back seat. Very tight front to back and very little head room. A child set would fit, but you fast realize it's a small car. It has a cocoon feels to it. Unless you're really short, in a normal driving position the driver's seat comes close to touching the front of the back seat. Not to mention a myriad of electronic warning lights popping on. I bought a hand held OBD reader and would check/turn off the lights while sitting at a light. Anyway, I'm pleased with my choice to go to a lower tech 20 year old car. Thought about the A3. Nice car. We're thinking about buying one when we trade in our A4 5speed Avant... which is a great car.

I have said this before but....

Dodge make a lovely mini-van!

Come on static... you know you want to... embrace you middle age fatherhood and buy the mini-van... resistance if futile.
