Some others that may come in your size and a decent price range, Toyo T1s and Hankook Z212 RS2. You can get both from www.edgeracing.com

I have been using Bridgestone Potenza's on my 911 and MazdaSpeed3 with great results. They are reasonably priced.

Yokohama. They don't make the AVS intermediates anymore but the ES 100 ain't bad for a street tire. I was sort of unhappy with my Kumho Ecsta tires, got them when they first came out. Not bad when new, but wandered a lot when they got halfway worn out.

Do they need to be compatible with winter use?

I will be replacing the Continentals on my Boxster before winter. They stick pretty well, but they are awful in the rain, and they wander like crazy in the ruts of the road.

listening in here......

If they have your size on Tirerack, Avon Tech M550 is an awesome high performance all season tire, and fairly cheap. They ride great, are quiet, and stick like crazy. They transformed my 540/6.

I put Fuzion ZRi on my 951, I was impressed in them as well. They're a summer tire, but have great grip, rode well, and were quiet.

Not to be an a$$, but isn't this a technical topic? I mean, I see threads get bumped over here from tech all the time ... do we ever bump threads back? Weird.

I suppose that highlights the fact that the Boxster tech forum isn't a particularly lively place, which is probably because too many Boxster owners, unlike the OP, are the kinds of pansies who simply take their car to the dealer for any work that needs to be done, rather than joining with the air-cooled crowd and becoming like the 911 tech forum, which is a veritable treasure trove of information.

Will Boxsters eventually fall to enough Real Drivers and Tinkerers that the Boxster forum has life, and there will be valuable support there like there is on the 911 Tech Forum, or will Boxster owners be relegated to OT for any help they need, where they'll have to suffer through posts like this one, questioning the philosophies behind their actions?

One topic about tires appears in OT, and suddenly your an expert on all things Boxster.

2.5L Boxsters can be had for as little as $15k these days. There already is a huge base of DIY folks out there. Why would they hang out on Pelican, when Pelican doesn't sell Boxster parts? Moreover, who wants to hang out with a bunch of aircooled geezers anyway?

Pelican doesn't sell Boxster parts?!

(stunned pause)

I guess that confirms the fact that Boxsters aren't real Porsches.

In all seriousness, I almost bought a Boxster last summer instead of my 330i. I am a 100% DIY guy (as much as possible), to the extent that I now own star sockets and an OBD-II code reader. I had heard a lot of what was probably FUD about 2.5L problems -- head gasket replacement, RMS replacement, that sort of thing, and I really didn't feel like buying a car just to drop the engine and do expensive maintenance on it.

So the serious question: If the Boxster DIYers don't hang out here, where do they hang out?

What happened to Wayne's Boxster with the blown-motor that he bought a year or so back?
