Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) - WOW!

It's been too long since college and the whole indie music scene...butI just discovered Chan Marshall. What a voice! I can't believe I haven't heard of her before. I know there are lots of musicians and music lovers here...anyone see her live? I'm gonna try to see her this summer when she comes to Chicago. | ||

My daughter told me that she thought I'd like Cat Power the other day, so I downloaded some. She was right. Very cool.

I really like it when something this non-commercial becomes popular. You are right, she does have a nice, powerful and versitile voice. sexy. I have some problems with the way that the traks on her website are produced and mixed. http://www.catpowerthegreatest.com/ Drums are far too compressed and would be much better served by having a more open, natural, sound and feel. Same goes with most of everything else: overcompression to the hilt, guitars, her voice, all side instruments... its too much. The reverbs timing do not match, which makes for an uneven mix, difficult to listen too.., in other words, what Im saying is that in my opinion the producer should be fired immediately, the whole album recut or at least remixed with someone who knows what the helll they are doing. She's nutty though. I mean really nutty and nobody is sure if it is all an act or if she is just a nutty-ass broad. Crying on stage n all that jazz. Check out NEKO CASE, get the album "Fox Confessor Brings The Flood" n tell me what you think.

Great albums but horrible live show. I saw her in Chicago and she sucked. Wouldn't look at the audience, head down, mumbled a lot. At one point it looked like she actually fell asleep on stage...then she just walked off. People were pissed.

Agreed, Neko Case is a great listen. I've also been spinning the new one from Feist (Leslie Feist), "The Reminder".

You think that's nutty? I was at a Fishbone concert when Angelo passed out onstage sometime during the second set. He came back on about 10 minutes later, screamed "I had a spasmatic attack!", sang for 1/2 of another song, then passed out cold again. The band tried to keep it going for another 20 minutes but dwindled down to just the bassist who noodled around for a while then lit up a hash pipe before calling it a night.
