Palestine and Hammas, or their descent into Hell

Hammas has now taken total control over the Palestian controlled areas, killing and bombing as needed to secure power in the area.

This is not good and the middle east will only descent futher into hell. Now the terrorists have complete and total control over Palestine.

Hamas Consolidates Hold on Gaza, Rounds up Fatah Leadership

Friday, June 15, 2007 AP

Palestinian militants from Hamas celebrate their capture of the Preventive Security headquarters in Rafah.

Palestinian militants from Hamas celebrate their capture of the Preventive Security headquarters in Rafah.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — On its first day of full rule in Gaza, the Islamic militant Hamas on Friday granted amnesty to Fatah leaders, signaling that it seeks conciliation with the defeated forces of moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Many had feared more bloodshed, particularly after victorious Hamas gunmen executed several Fatah fighters in the streets gangland-style on Thursday, in the final phase of the decisive five-day battle over Gaza.

Gazans awoke to the new reality of Hamas control Friday, fraught with uncertainty and fear that they'll become even poorer and more isolated. Gaza's crossings with Egypt and Israel — lifelines for the fenced-in territory — have been closed this week, and it was not clear if and when they would reopen. Extended closure could quickly lead to a humanitarian crisis.

A Hamas spokesman said Palestinian police, now under Hamas command, would take up positions at the crossings, but it's unlikely Israel would acquiesce to such a deployment, after Hamas militants had frequently attacked the passages in the past.

Gaza's streets, deserted in the past week, were crowded with cars, pedestrians and triumphant Hamas fighters, some driving in jeeps and firing in the air. Crowds converged on former Fatah strongholds and looted them.

Joe; doesn't your understanding of "Palestine" and "Palestinian controlled areas" seem to ignore the total West Bank?

I'm wondering if Hamas has over-played their hand. Given that they have always been stronger in Gaza -- the poorer, and more crowded part of the Palestinian Territories, have they just opted out of a united Palestinian Territories? If Abbas now holds an election on the West Bank and excludes Gaza, will Hamas still be as strong given that their power base is in Gaza? Will the result be a "moderate" Fatah government on the West Bank, and a radical Hamas government in Gaza -- essentially two different Palestinian territories. What then? Compared to the West Bank, Gaza has no economy, just a lot of people.

Put a wall up around Gaza, and make peace with the West Bank. Start to open up the economic opportunities and negotiate with the West Bank, and let them become part of the modern world as long as they continue down the moderate path.

Three state solution?

genrex 06-15-2007 06:34 AM

It looks like Hamas has opted out of any solution. They are doubtless carrying out the wishes of Syria and Iran, and the Gaza strip is now a client state of those countries. I think it will get much worse..

It’s like the quote from the movie Black Hawk Down “In Somalia killing is negotiation.”

Flatbutt1 06-15-2007 07:24 AM

well I just don't know what to think. There was an election, done in the open and now the party in power is in a civil war with the losing side. How can anyone reasonably expect this region of the world to ever live in peace.

VenezianBlau 87 06-15-2007 04:25 PM

That's a shame.

Hamas, Fatah, PLO...

Someone with a PhD in middle-eastern studies (of small strips of granted, miserable land) may make a compelling argument how we should all give economic opportunity (more donated equity) a chance. Barring a forced, mass migration to another grazing pasture; 10 years from now it will be the same old sh**. Sometimes the people are the problem, not the circumstances.

Maybe if they had oil, they would act as responsible stewards of their resources. Oh yeah, that apparently doesn't work, either.

Typical Western points of view...

svandamme 06-16-2007 05:59 AM

Like i said before, when not fighting some "invader" they will happily turn on themselves... it applies across the region..
I guess they like it more the soccer , or tennis, and i guess it's good exercise too...

sammyg2 06-16-2007 07:27 AM

If anyone thinks that hamas will stop at gaza, they are living in a fantasy world. Next will be the west bank, then Israel. They will not stop until they are destroyed.

This is a bad thing and will get ugly. This is a whole lot worse as far as global destabilization than the Iraq war.
I bet this war will last for more than 6 days.

svandamme 06-16-2007 07:36 AM

i'm sure Israel is shivering with fear, not
they're just waiting for another reason to go in there guns blazing, but right now, the Israeli's are just watching the show as they kill off each other instead

mmmm...think i'd have to agree with this, or at least think it's very likely. after all I doubt that any Israeli is surprised at this turn of events.

Elaborate.
