More info: car was bought from a Pelican member, whose immediate family had bought the car new in 1990. They have all service records.

Car has 238,xxx miles on it, but the top end of the engine was rebuilt at 225,xxx, following a blown head gasket. The oil mixed with the coolant, but no coolant got into the oil.

Car runs great. It is SLOW, though - 2.3liter, 16 valve, normally-aspirated inline four. I haven't looked up the numbers, but I would guess no more than 120hp. I am looking forward to decent gas mileage.

Car came with 4 relatively-new all-season tires, and a spare set of rims with studded snow tires.

It drove 100+ miles today without missing a beat, but on the highway one of the turn signal lenses popped off and scattered away into oblivion. Until I get a new one, I took the other side's off for symmetry.

Hah! Yeah. Well, I hate putting senseless miles on the 951 driving to-and-from work in traffic in the sweltering summer heat.

And there is this little impedement called "Avon Mountain" between my house and my job. It can be a fun drive on a cool, dry night at 2AM (no traffic), but it is a living hell in the pouring rain, in a turbocharged Porsche, with SUVs flying by you at 80mph.

No, the Volvo will be my most-of-the-time commuter car. I'm sure nice, 75-degree days will have the Porsche out on the mountain, but this should help me keep the mileage reasonable.

That volvo will run til the end of time. There is one guy rocking around with 2.5 million miles on his. Volvo flies him around the world to debut his car.

Yeah, that was my mother's old shuttle since I was 2. I learned to drive on it as well. I have no idea why the lens came off, sorry to hear about that.

The standard SOHC 740s had about 115 hp, and this one has a little over 150. I recall reading that either Porsche or Cosworth designed the DOHC head, so it's a little special. The bottom end is plain Volvo red block.

If you're good with a soldering iron, you should be able to fix the heated seats- they stopped working after someone spilled soda on the switches. The switches are soldered in, and likely need to be replaced. I don't think they're that expensive.

Should last a long time. Best of luck with it.

Ah! Going Swedish. I like your choice from a practical and safety perspective. But as you say, it is a real tractor to drive. Slow and clumsy.

150hp?!? Sounds like I need to do something to wake up that engine. Defintely doing a tune-up later this week.

Of course, it might have something to do with my 951 being my daily driver for about 4 months...
